Not necessarily.mick&shon wrote:arh righto that explains a couple of things .i dont want to sound dumb i dont know much about patrols.so its the sd33 i should be chasing ??????????
MQ-MK had SD33 or SD33T as diesels, GQ had TD42 or TD42T.
So it depends what era you are looking at.
This is not legal advice.
Okay, I just wasn't sure if you had identified the right engine model as you originally asked about an L28.mick&shon wrote:ok ok ok ! all i want to know is the dimensions of the 2 motors. its not important what yr or model the patrol, because the sd33 is not for a nissan
cheers mick

thanks for the PM reminder, totally forgot.
SD33 is 900x480x670 (LxWxH)
i do have the manifolds off so the width may be slightly more, but it wouldnt be much. oil filter sticks out to the side almost exactly in line with the edge of the bellhousing, dont think the manifold sticks out past this...

IMHO if you are doing an engine swap you are wasting your time fitting an IDI diesel.
Compared to DI diesels:
They are harder to start
they are less economical
less reliable (usually)
you have to run much lower boost pressures
For a hilux I would look at something like a:
Isuzu 4BE1 (3.6L 4cyl)
Isuzu 4BD1T (3.9L 4cyl)
Toyota 13BT (3.6L 4cyl)
ISUZU 4JJ1-TC (3.0L)
All of those engine have 130+ HP and HEAPS of torque in stock form. The SD33T puts out 100HP and cannot be tweaked anywhere near as much as the engines above.
IDI engines can run ~10psi max boost. All of the above could run 30+psi if you wanted to.

ISUZUROVER,
your saying an sd33 is unreliable ??????
i got one here with just under 500,000 klm never had head of or rebuilt to prove otherwise (im the second owner and know cars history)
cheap to run ,will pull a 2 tonne trailer all day without dramas
and starts all the time
and NO its not a turbo, just straight sd33

Yes, I would agree with that as all the diesels that I have heard running long mileage (sd33, td42, hz) are indirect diesels. Plus I would never call them unreliable.nerida67 wrote:ISUZUROVER,
