MQ Patrol squeaking noise.

My 1983 mq patrol has started squeaking for around 5-10mins of driving after it has been turned on. I have been letting her warm up for around that time before i start driving because the noise does not sound good. The noise seems to disappear after that time, however, if i get high enough revs the noise comes back. I believe that either the fan belt needs to be tightened, lubricated or one of the bearings is on its way out. Can anybody offer an advice?

could be a bearing, belts would only slip for the first couple of minutes - does it get worse if u try and steer, this would only make a diff if it has power steering... is it a screech or a squeak or a grinding noise?

I would call it a screech mate. I don't have power steering and have not noticed a major difference while steering.

Sounds like a bearing, try taking the alt belt off and then try the water pump belts and see if it stops.

go down to supercrap and buy a can of BELT DRESSING ,
spray that on your belts and see wat happens
if it still squeells after that then probably your bearings of some sort
does the noise get worse with revs ???

ok so the noise gets worse with revs
$10 can of belt dressing wont go astray,so MAYBE buy that first and go from there
(ive got a can here ive had for years , so a little goes a long way)
then from there would be process of illimination im afraid
work your way around each component and see which one scqueels
and which ever one does would be your problem
very hard to determine over the keyboard

could be the bearing in the alternator as these are quite common...
A good way to tell is to get a helluva long screwdriver and whilst the car's running holt it on the suspects - water pump, alt etc and see if they sound like they are crunching or if they all sound the same. Belts also do wear through their proper grooves, so look for cracks in belts/ if the contours in the belts look worn - unless it has the old school single v belts.

have you got airco? if so, my money would be on the idler pully.. ive had that sease before, sounds like it squeeks like shit.
It only stopped when it seased, then also shagged the belt.
85 MK lwb 3.3td 2 inch body lift, 32inch simex Ironman 2 inch suspension lift. 4 tonne on the clock, original donk.
