i have just put a 4.2 in my 1997 gq that had a 2.8 in it i have eveything hooked up and running except for spedo and taco and 4x4 light the wiring harness is all hooked up if any 1 can help with these would be very help full the 4.2 is a 88 model

I did the same mod to mine, (since sold). The speedo should be working, the tacho wires will work, you have to intercept them under the dash and bring in the TD42 tacho wires from the timing cover sensor. I can't recall which wire but if you put the two wiring diagrams side by side it is easy enough to work out.

I did this conversion about two years ago and it was a direct swap unplug the loom from 2.8 gearbox change the plug on the end of the loom to suit the 4.2 gear box plug in and all had been right since.
