about the only things that are the same are the block and the crank. (I think there is small diferences in the blocks too, like no oil squirters on 1hz) you would need to swap to 1hd-t pistons, cam, head, Injection pump, injectors, injector lines

fit an intercoooler and 3" exhaust and an EGT gauge and have it tuned so EGTs stay within a safe range.

18-20 shouldnt be a problem as long as EGTs are kept under control and the turbo is capable of it.

1HZs HAVE OIL SQUIRTERS FOR THE PISTONS

well the 1hz i rebuilt definitely did, you can put 1hdt the rods in and get pistons to suit with the 30 mm gudgen pins which is what i did. I also ceramic coated the pistons (about 200 bucks) as most blow with cracked pistons, it keeps the heat out. If i was to do it again i would get the head surface, exhaust ports and what not. And appearently the newer 1hz had a better designed precom chamber so i put them in as well.

There is a guy around here getting 250hp+ from a 1hz. Motor was totally stock too. and has been running that setup for ages.

If i was going to do it id use a late model motor with the nitrided crank, better precomps, better rods, hydraulic timing belt tensioner etc.

So what spec turbo is good for a higher powered job like this, it seems there is not alot being done with the good ol 1HZ. We may start seeing some big numbers coming out of them, that will test their relaibility and strength.

With regards to ceramic coating , i assume you would bore the cylinders first then size the pistons and have them coated.
It's only the top of the piston that gets coated isnt it?
nup, wasnt me................

all 1hz's and 1hdts have pistion squirters. it was the older 2h that didn't, (and the 12ht turbo variant that did).

if your thinking 18-20psi i would not waste money on a rebuilt 1hz. pick up a low km 1hdt-fte for similar money.
