Just investigating my options at the moment, was just trying to find out any problems that others had encountered with this transplant. Any tips or advice would be awesome.

why u want a 4age in the vitara anyway? a 1.6L EFI vit engine is a brilliant motor, its reliable, and parts are cheap.

Mine is the carby version. And 60kw compared to 93?kw doesn't quite cut it anymore.

4age is more like mid 80's kw not 90's afaik.

I assume the engine sits north south in a vit? If so it will need a fair bit of modifying to suit a rwd application.

Do some research on corrolla forums.

The benefit of the 4a series is unlimited (within reason upgrades) and stock motors making 125 odd kw if you get the right ones, but peaky so dont expect to have all that power down low.

we actually found one already set up for a rwd application so havent had to do a full conversion but you need different exhaust manifold as the 4age exhaust goes under the sump stock instead of down the side. i think the ones of the sprinters suit. - we went aftermarket extractors to suit rwd set up, they are common as hell and under $300.

t50? i think the g box is called out of sprinters and celicas. is a 5 speed box to bolt upto the 4age. not sure but you could probably also get a custom bellhousing to suit your current gbox.

why are people choosing the 4age engine over the vitara EFI motor???

just curious...

Vitara 16v =
97.3 PS (96.0 bhp) (71.6 kW) @ 5600 rpm
132.4 Nm (98 ft·lb) (13.5 kgm) @ 4000 rpm

which is a TON of power for something weighing in at or under 1000kg, and packs a heap of torque.

I know the 4age is more powerful, but surely the work to get it in there etc isnt worth the hassle? especially with only a marginal (~10%) torque increase over the vitara engine?

cause people always want more  20% ish more kw's which is fun not necissarily usefull offroad.

because of the power up scene for corrollas its not unusual to pull 150kw out of these engines - wether or not people ever do that doesnt stop them saying 4age are awsome good for 150kw blah blah blah.

I cant see the power up options for vits being as plentiful or cheap.

power upgrades for the 4age are endless! engines are cheap but yes they would be more work to install. you go to a nice g box as well.

we did it as the car already had a carbi 4a in it so the upgrade to the 4age was easier and  wish it would stop raining so we could finish it.

there are two types of gearboxs for the 4age the t50 which has a hydralic clutch and another one which uses a cable.

I'm investigating running a 4AGE (probably a 20V) in my sierra and I can think of plenty of reasons to run a 4AGE over a G16.

I've built and driven cars with EFI G16's and they are a great motor, and an easy fit (as a vitara motor)

They're adequate, but not awe inspiring. Cheap, reliable, neat, light and plenty of gearbox options. (sierra manual, vitara manual, and 3 and 4 speed auto)

However, if 70Kw isn't going to cut it, what do you do? Boosting a G16 isn't, in my opinion feasible on a $$ per HP scale. Getting the tuning right is just far too expensive, even if the parts aren't (but they might be)

The big problem I can see with the 4AGE and variants is the gearbox. The sprinter gearboxes are OK, but I really want a 4 speed auto and there's n bolt up option.

Aparently there was a factory bolt up rwd 4 spd auto option but i am yet to find one.have tried more than once with no luck

Sprinter Gearbox's are ok you want the jap spec one (slave cyl on the right hand side)yes T5O

Don't touch the cable clutch box K50 it is not up to the task

The importer i used to work for in WA said he used to get 4spd auto rwd 4age's,
he never had anyone wanting an auto box so had sent them all to scrap before i started there .i was spewing :bad-words:

You sure it was a 4 speed? I have a 3spd AE71 Corolla auto bolted to my 20v 4age....Spoke to a lot of gurus of that era corolla around melbroune and no one mentioned the 4 spd...damn....would have been perfect to have better than 1:1 final drive....

shake down run for mine in a week and a half....after 30 months in the build :D

X2 - sure it was a 4 speed auto not a 4 speed manual

I wouldn't be surprised if there was a 4 speed auto sprinter in Japan though.

I'd be very, very interested in a viable 4 speed auto behind a 4AGE. I want to keep my 5.12 diffs and 6.4 transfer and still be able to run the highway.

Isnt the slush box an a24dl ?

An Asin Warner box found in toyotas and Volvo's used in dudlux autos etc .. should be a matter of the correct bellhousing . or bellhousing/gearbox adapter ..
