td42 into 2.8

Post by marika90 »

i have been searching 4 a 4.5 to do this conversion as my td42 ute is pretty tired but have found a good 2.8. i have heard the drivers side engine mount is the same but the passenger needs 2 be changed.also after information regarding the crossmember i have been told u need 2 keep the td42 crossmember but i would like 2 know if the mounting 4 the crossmember is the same. im concerned because the 2.8 is ment to have a different gearbox. correct me if im wrong any info appreciated. cheers

I don't understand, seems to be a downgrade to me. Get another TD42 or freshen yours up.

Have a look around mate everyone is upgrading to a td42 not down grading. Don't do it. Theres a few second hand td42 getting around.

Well you didn't ask the question very well did you seeing as everyone who replied thinks you want to replace a 4.2 with a 2.8??? Maybe try asking the question properly like "I want to replace a 2.8 with a 4.2, what's involved?".

Awe well that changes things. I thought you wanted to go 2.8 into a 4.2 vehicle. Other way around i see. In that case theres quite a few threads on that topic.

I did the conversion into a GQ no no pedal hassles. I have read you need a 4.2 GU pedal assembly - makes sense.
Mount is a simple plate. send me your email and I can send you a drawing of what I did

the main thing i had to do was change the altinator wireing over but in mine the plugs were the same so it wawws just a matter of taking the cables off the 2.8 and putting then on the 4.2 altinator
