Hilux Lift

Post by hiluxhunter »

Hi guys just wondering what the best spring lift for a hilux, but i want to keep it reasonably legal as i have a big trip to work every day. So I am thinking maybe 2 or 3inch but without extended shackles and that sorta thing I am also running 31's

cheers, Ben

You will fit 31s without any lift, 2inch is probably easier to get.
With 2inch spring lift, you should be able to fut 33s under, maybe 35s.
Im running std height springs, and 2 inch body lift and I run 35s with no dramas.

A 2inch lift is all you need, BUT steer clear of OME rubbish.

For 31's, I wouldn't go any higher than 2" lift.

Have a look at EFS for the springs and Koni shocks, I have nothing but goods things about both...

just leave it standard ride height, 100% legal, twin lock it, leave the 31's on and outdrive the living sh!t out of all the city gutter jumpers that look "supposedly" "tough" rolling on the bitumen........

shift your dif forward 25mm (fairly easy job).
longer front shocks
twin lock it
33's

will get you a shite load of places.

trust me ;)

Have to agree with the guys saying leave it stock hieght and lock it. I just have a rear locker and when it was still standard hieght with 31s I got many places easier than mates in unlocked GQs and 80s with lifts and 33/35s

I only went a a suspension lift so I could fit bigger tyres without scrubbing as I did get hung up on the U-bolt plates a couple of times

mine on 33's twin locked with ruf (limited front end flec though to save the std steering) was mainly limited by diff pumpkin height. on tracks where the rutts were a little too deep it was game over all too soon.

but if i had some wheels on the ground it would get up there.

this is the reason i would go as big tyres as your willing to drive on (poor qlders) bu yeah a locked lux on 31's and some creative lines will out drive a flexy lifted lux with open diffs all day.

and 90% of it can be done with just a rear locker - i rarely had to flick the front on.

My plan is to go RUF with high steer, IFS rears don't want anymore than about 3inch lift, run 35s and twin lockers with that I should be able to get most places really easy

good set up - lots of work and $ to get working well. not that im trying to discourage you ate all. i had 35's on mine for a bit and was a pain in the arse, i needed bigger offset or spacers. not usable offroad at all, but 33's were perfect.

lockers and 35's will tend to break cv's so expect to want longs at somestage too.

but yeah will get you into lots of trouble  with that set up. sounds fun.
