hey guys got a v6 hilux conversion and its over heating (really ripping my nighty lol)
have changed thermostat and 2nd hand vp com radiator firred also water pump had thermo hard wired ( by desperation on the way to work) still no good any ideas any one running lux com conversion whats do i need to stop this over heating any help will be greatly apreciated

Every man and his dog with a como motor in a hilux has the same problem, half would be busted arse motors, others need better radiators, different diff gears brings over revving and/or constantly loading the motor creating heat

Have you acutally confirmed that either radiator you had fitted is clean and not clogged with a few hundred thousand km's of crap? What radiator do you have, have you bled any air from the system. A bit more infomation would be give people a chance to help you. Does it overhead straight away, or only when pushed hard up hill. What driveline are you running, tyres etc?
Hard wiring thermo fans is useless, it wont solve a problem. If the conversion is done properly then the fans will come on when the engine requires them to come on, and turn off when they are not needed. What general condition is the motor in. What condition is your radiator cap in, have you tried a new cap?
Have you checked what temperature it is reaching to rule out electrical glitches in the gauge. Temps up to 105 degrees are not abnormal, from memory fan on is just after 100 degrees. It is 105 on a VT, but not 100% sure on VP.

have bled it time and time again not 100% sure on the radiator ill slip the plastic tanks off and see! runs hot after 15 min driving hot or cold day ( i leave for work at 430am) single thermo is an after market job and IMO its shit i will put the hilux radiator back in and see how that goes it was only overheating on steep hills, have not owned the car long so condition of motor/ kms in unknown conversion was done 10 year ago thermo comes on when hot and when aircon is on
My lux had a high K motor and leaked from the heater pipe into the manifold, had almost no coolant in the whole system and the rad cap was shagged and with aircon on never over heated. It ran the standard deisel rad with one big thermo. But the overheating issue is very common an everyone runs a different system an its hit an miss.

running 30 inch tyers standard hilux diesel running gear including hilux g box anyone got pics of there systems whats evryones systems made of

are u using the tans cooler in the radiator if so chec the trans fluid is not dirty if it is dirty change it dirty fluid is hot fluid .
if it only overheated under hill load with the lux rad in it, then with the vp rad it was hot regardless, I would be looking into a more efficient radiator.
vp is pretty old so should at the very least be rodded.
my lux was getting a little hot going up hills, got a chinese radiator for it and it was terrible, got my origional re cored with an extra core and its never even thought about getting hot. excellent.

it was $490 for a recore 4 row hilux.

I have a similar conversion (VN 6 to 90 4runner). The 22R Toyota radiator mine is fitted with supposedly has the capacity to cool the engine. Although my radiator is pretty old and had a couple of leaks recently (see "3.8 radiator issues please help" it's on page 2 atm), after I welded the holes up it ran just fine. There are a few suggestions on the other thread as well that might help you choose.
It sounds like as though your radiator is blocked up, I'm looking at replacing mine soon just to be sure and I've discovered that VN brand new replacements are going pretty cheap.
Also if your engine is mounted slightly high in the front I've found that because the drainage plug for the VN is towards the back of the motor, you need to raise the rear ax quite a bit to bleed the cooling system properly. You may have the same set up (although they moved the drain plug forward on later models).
The twin thermo falcon option sounds good too, photos pls??

I have an Ln106 which was a 2.8 diesel. Have retained the diesel radiator but am running a Marks engine fan, well originally was a Marks fan but have now modded the pulley to incorporate a viscous clutch for water crossings. An engine driven fan will pull approx 2/3rds more air than a thermo so no overheating problems for mine.

i have done several v6 conversion in hilux's and have never had a prolbem with over heating run diesel raditor with thermo fans, if running automatic box you need a exturnal raditor for auto oil, do not run oil lines through raditor, also have a bypass to switch thermos on when needed as the standard computer needs to be reprogramed to come on early,your gear change speeds are to tall for 4wdring in the autos, i put a manual shift kit into one and beefed whole box up, no more prolbems.
