Yep - but if something fails during a recovery, I'd rather that the bullbar pulled off the chassis than that my recovery hook pulled off the mount. One could be lethal, the other won't.31zook wrote:Your bar is only as strong as the mounting point....

Well finally got my butt into gear and got it (almost) finished. It's now in primer - still needs a few holes drilled for mounts and spotties and a lick of bog before it gets painted, but its 95% there. Pretty pleased with how it turned out! Never trying another one though ... I'm just too slow at this kind of stuff.

Nah definitely going black alien - can't imagine it looking right in white, especially when it won't colour match the Zook and will have large black spotties fitted.
Weighs 33.8kg ... its flamin' heavy. Would have been smarter to cut the entire thing out of 4mm plate in retrospect.

Here is the custom bars that i make up.
Made from 2 mm mild steel and flat sheetmetal thats has been folded to shape. 60mm tube for the crossover pipes and mounted to the chassie with 3mm mild steel.
As said before, why make it so thick and heavy. If u hit something u are going to do more harm than good to the car.

To answer your question, I don't have a press to bend sheet metal, I don't have a tube bender, and I don't have room or money at the moment for either. I also can't weld anything under about 5mm steel without blowing big chunks out of it You work with what you've got and can do. For me at the moment that's slim pickings.
Pics fitted to car tomorrow Alien - got the rest of the RUF hangers on tonight ready for springs tomorrow (paint's drying) and gave the bar its final bog and sand. Another lick of primer tomorrow and I'll fit it up.
The lower half of your bar looks good, but the upper half looks ridiculous. Its way too big for a sierra. If you used the next size down tube, made the top bar 200mm lower, and leaned it back 10 degrees it would look a million times better. And it definately needs tighter radius bends, not that long radius shit. A sierra has a square front end. There powercoated gloss black and to suit a 2 inc body lift. They took some time to get the first one looking right but after that i have a template for the bars.

Hmmm. White does look okay. Tell ya what - I've already got a coat of satin black on there so how about I chuck the bar on tomorrow, take a piccy, then repaint it gloss white (got a couple of cans here) and take another? Trying to fit it in before I got to Adelaide on Thursday could be a problem though....
About the 'little Tim'. Hell, yeah I'd be happy if my face looked that slim
