from what i have been told they are better then carby and solves all the carby issues with fuel starving and so forth but then still not as good as mpfi. so its basicaly the compromise between the 2 engines if i found a single point injection set up cheap enough that i could throw on my engine id do it.
The 1.6 single point motors are a nice unit. Like any EFI they start first time any time, dont cut out on angles etc.
The 1.6 8 valve singlepoint is nicer to drive offroad in my opinion. They have quite a lot more off-idle torque, and like to lug much more than the 16 valve engines. They are great for crawling and high traction wheeling. They don't have as much top end power though.
The 16 valve multipoint engines make a lot more top end power, so are nice on-road, and good if you like lots of revs and/or drive in mud. They are just a but more prone to stalling when crawling up stuff, or when your letting out the clutch to take off etc.
They are both much better than a carbed 1300, just each one has its own advantages.
