which one first ?
hello i own a 93 ford mavrick ute and was wandering which one to do first to lift it a leaf ova conversion extended shackles or shocks looking for a 2 to 4 inch lift have not decided yet which ones thanks guys
A SOA conversion will net you an instant 4-6 inch lift straight off the bat - but will be quite expensive.
If your pockets aren't deep enough for an SOA conversion, just go springs/shocks/shackles. And remember when you're looking at brands etc. that 99% of the time you will get what you pay for.

Re: which one first ?
Are you talking about the rear springs (only) being leaves, or front AND rear? Ummm.... not really. Its FACTORY fitment/design, ie. lots of R&D, plus all of the driveline and suspension is built and tested to suit. Fair enough, but I was told by a QLD transport inspector that the reason that they won't allow a SOA conversion is that if there is a failure particularly with the u bolts, the axle is not contained within the confines of the spring and chassis and had nothing to do with the handling of the vehicle.coxy321 wrote:Ummm.... not really. That's just what HE said, the real reason is probably like you said "research and development".

I know the front diffs have a torque bar, but the rear doesn't. I suppose like most things relating to vehicle modification, the authorities have set rules in place to stop dodgy-arsed clowns bodging up their own SOA conversions. Its not to say that there aren't people out there doing good work (some work i've seen is BETTER than factory), however, they need to have a rule for all to save the heartache.
On a side note, i thought there used to be 2-3 workshops down here that did legit and engineered SOA's a few years back.

My coil cab is dec 1992. I think the change was either end of 1991 or end of 1992. I used to have problems getting parts through nissan because they said it was leaf, until this FAST system came in.
I would price up a coiled rolling chassis before playing with leaves. Leaf springs them selves are expensive compared to coils and the mods to get leaves to work make them expensive too.
A coil rolling chassis can be bought cheap these days and give you all the core components for what you want to acheive with the added benefiet of comfort.
