80 series Lift Height

Post by troopa »

Have recently purchased a early GXL 80, it has had H/D susp put in the rear as the last fella used it solely as a work rig putting heaps of weight in the back. I want to raise the front to match as she's doing a severe nosedive at the mo, drama is previous owner doesnt know what lift is in the rear so i dont know how to match it in the front. Does any 1 know the standard ride height of a 80 on 31x15's?

measured from the spring follower cone inside the spring to the axel perch standard height is 45mm.

You'd be better off replacing the front and rear springs. HD springs in the back with no weight will ride crap and won't flex too well either.
The worst part about being told you have Alzheimer's, is that it doesn't just happen once.

got a 5 inch lift in mine to give you an idea see the pic below but not sure how long ago it was put in. But if it didn't already have the kit i would have done it anyway flex's fairly well and handles better than a lifted hilux.

click pic below for bigger version, this is first week i brought it with standard 31" tyres on it

Took a punt and bought a set of 2 inch dobinsons springs and el cheapo long travel shocks which lifted the front 3inches and matches the rear perfect. Bolted a set of 35 bfg's on it and went bush out neerim east way on sunday along with a mates GQ and showed him up so i'm a pretty happy camper!!

this is my first 4wd but i was very surprised handle pretty well even a mate mark (markil on outers) has driven it and said it handles pretty well. I think a lot has to with the liift kit you run. Mines a toughdog lift kit with dobinsons springs and shocks. While dads got a 75 (howesy on outers) that standard height with EFS shocks and its terrible. Mines like driving a normal car compared to that.

ask either of the two before mentioned people and they could probably give you some more detailed info

Terrible hey (lol) we are talking about a 75 here they're all terrible but those useless EFS rubbish big bore shocks dont help the biggest waste of $800 hard earned dollars I've ever spent definately wont look at any of their products again.

Mate I am running a 4inch Snake extreme kit with 35 inch km2's and I am over the moon with them. It flexes almost as much as my mates 6 inch GU.

I woudn't go any higher than 5 inches as that will will still tuck 37's no probs.
