wheel spacers, large offsets???

Post by uninformed »

hey all,

Id like to know who is running wheel spacers and/or large offset rims on rover axles???

doesnt matter what diffs (toy/rover/sals), doesnt matter what shafts, or cvs etc. what Im interested is if anyone is having problems with the:

Front: swivel ball to axle case flange connection
rear: spindle (stub axle) to axle case flange connection

please let me know how much offset you are running and or what size wheel spacers. also how much the vehilce is driven

cheers,
Serg

do you have any offset or backspace measurements? like from the rim mounting surface to the outside lip of rim?

cheers,

16x7s with 55mm back spacing and 33's for 5+ years
now has 15x8s with 75mm back spacing and Q78s, no problems so far although its a dedicated bush truck, not a daily.

15x8 with +50mm offset (to retain steering lock)

12.5x35x15 BFG m/t's

Snapped axle to swivel mounting bolts when racing it.

Otherwise no wheel bearing or swivel pin problems in 100,000klm.

Oh and we flogged the shit out of it all the time.
Cheers,

Have had 33x12.5s (bfg muds) on 15x7s before. LCMP a couple of times, covered about 60000klm. Never a problem.

How is the project coming along, Serg?

Have you decided to go ahead with the spacers?

Stop giving us ammo

Have you thought of machining a spacer for between the axle housing and the swivels and getting Barry to make you longer axles to suit ?

That'll maintain your scrub radius/KPI and wont stress the bearings/stub axle, although you'll need some pretty good bolts.
I do remember Tombie on AULRO saying once that his neighbour/engineer did the sums on those huge offset rims he had on his Defender and they were nowhere near overloading the bearings.
