Surf update
A frame swivel
A frame Diff mount, affectionally dubbed 'the castle', needs more bracing and finishing off but that's one of next weekends projects.
Completed A frame with all mounts, swivel and brace.
Underneith shot, showing chromo lower links, A frame and nicely tucked up tailshaft, i'm unsure whether i will end up running these links bent or as is, ATM they sacrifice a bit of ground clearence, just have to see how i go.
Ramp shot showing links at flex, as it still doesn't have the tank in we towed it up the ramp with dans mighty poo wagon !!
That's not full travel at either end, we're gonna get another probably two inches of up, just gotta do a bit of body trimming.
Underneith shot, showing A frame twist etc etc. Coils need to be tied in, they would last about 1 flex then they'd go bye byes !!
Another, once again we'll be getting around two inches more droop than this, we ran out of daylight to play with shock mounts etc.

Carlton - You're right, they are VERY nice !! They are Snake Racing's new 'Mogs' joints. Bronze bushed, greasable, rebuildable....all the good stuff !!

When we were out last weekend I had my rear leafs hanging up on rocks quite often. I was wondering with such long bottom arms how will they go if you hang them on rocks ??? are the strong enough to possibly handle the weight of the truck on them ??
Only asking as I'm lookin into a rear end rebuild on the surf, not sure about bigger leafs, 5 link or A frame yet. I will be watching with interest how yours goes. Looks awesome....

The arms are pretty strong supra, i'm not sure on the diameter but they're chrome-moly..... it is a concern though, just those arms could be the only reason not to get up a rock step because they are hanging down quite low. Which is why i mentioned before that i may end up running them bent, it's just gonna be a close call as with them mounted under the rails they can only be so bent before they will contact the rails when at full up travel. All to be found out when testing . :wink:
Don;t worry about hanging up on the links, the surface area of the links isn't enough to cause enough friction to stop you moving (unless it unweights the tyres completely) I didn't think I hit mine that often untill I had one off and had a good look at the flat spot ground into them
Tie those coils in so you get some controlled resistance against down travel before your shocks are stretched right out..

could just be the angle of the pics...
if you can do the work to bend the lower arms a little that would be best. don't compromise unless you absolutely have to. We all spend so many $ on our rigs it is pointless compromising something like that unless it costs loads more.
are you going to work on balancing the flex out?

Your wish is my command carlton It will sit down about 2 inches off the jack stands, so the angle isn't that accurate, but you get the general idea. I had them made too long, my mistake.....
zzzz, since we were only towing it up the ramp, it's a little harder to compare travel. But i think it's going to be quite good, those rear springs are fairly stiff, and the front reasonably soft, so the front will be doing alot of work until the terrain calls for more, when the back will come into play.
In those pics the front wristed arms are still all attached, if i disconnect one upper arm it will droop around 3" more. Not sure if the trade off in strength with only one arm is worth the extra travel, all will come to light in the next month hopefully. And don't worry, no shortcuts !!
