my new 3.8 letter sierra

Post by vitara guy »

hi guys just picked up a sierra with a commodore 3.8 in it the plans are to turn it into a dedicated comp rig (it will take a while on a appretice wage) i was wondering what transfer case people use ( because it dosent have one) and i am also planing on putting 60 series diffs under it but do you use the standerd 60 series diff gears if not what size gears do you use.

thanks heaps

What gearbox does it have in it ? I have seen it done with a commodore auto and adaptor for twin Toy transfer cases.

I'd be using a rover case - nice low range, front digs/burns strong, cheap and available - and offset to suit the 60 series diffs.

As Steve said Rover or even hilux?? then you can get the adaptor to suit easy.

This is gunna be a pretty pricey set up once its done tho!

yup def go the rover transfer case setup... 3.21 low range ratio which is decent.

60 series run 4.1 centres, so overall crawl isnt too bad.

Rover cases are bloody strong let me tell u... we've run them in all our buggies and never seen an issue with them.

They can be front and rear disconnected...

The auto, rover case and standard 4.1 cruiser ratios should be good up to a 37" tyre for most off road work. The auto will be the big help.

Daisy, what work did you do to the commo boxes in the buggies that ran the commo V6 motors?
