Difference in drop between 70 and 80 pitman arm

Post by vk7ybi »

Whats the difference in drop between a 70 and 80 pitman arm? I've just completed my 60 PS conversion on my 40, and envisage a SOA conversion sometime.. I will need less drop than the 70 arm gives, is there anything to be gained by changing to 80 parts? If so, what?

I know there are flat pitman arms available, but these have a shorter centre to centre spacing of the tapered holes..

I looked at the 80 pitman arm when I did my conversion couple weeks back. Visually couldn't see much difference in drop, not to mention the difficulty in a wreckers selling the arm without the box.

So i guess with a spring over you will use flatter springs and short shackles? Hence the need for clearance??? Maybe superior have a solution...

Thats the general idea with the SOA, flat springs.. I plan to use stock length shackles to keep it all low as possible.. This is why I need a flatter pitman arm..

Before people start suggesting that I use highsteer and a flat highsteer arm, I'm building this to a budget and will be using a cast double arm on the passenger side.. I need the pitman arm to match the length of that arm for best results..

maybe a hilux one will work? some of them look flater, not sure how the spline size is though?

ive got a 60 and 80 series power steering box hear the drop of the 2 arms is about the same, only 3mm different if that.

im after a arm that drops lower than a 80 series.

Hilux IFS should be the same size shaft as cruiser,
You can get flat ones from Locktup

IFS arms are the same taper, but are shorter.

A shorter IFS arm would work properly with the shorter high steer arms..
