hi. I'm new around here (the Forum). I've recently bought a HJ47 :D and have had a passing idea to fit the Chev 6.5 turbo diesel myself (the minister for war and finance may take a little more convincing :cry: ) but marks adapters make a full kit to fit these bamf right under the bonnet of these beasties and will mate straight to the oem gear box. 4 or 5 speed! I would guess, because it was one of the first things I had thought of being a mechanic, that disks on all 4 corners would be a good idea. other than that I can't really say (yet lol) good luck with it and I'd really like to see some pics if it goes ahead.

Oh, and I totally think it can and Should be done!!!

At an educated guess i would say NO

Toyota had to widen the chassis on the new 70's to fit the v8. So it probably won't fit in a 40. I recall the thread on the 105 conversion, however the 105 chassis is quite wide.

this would be off its head. i would imagine they would fit. the v8 diesel cant be much wider the a holden 308. but the amount of bs u would have to do to hook it up. u would need a wreck to get all the wiring. i think u need some dashboard parts aswell with the later electronicallly injected diesels. i would just go 6.5 chev. much easier mechanically injected no wires!.

half of you are talking about a chev, the rest are talking about the toyo unit...... the OP asked about the toyo unit, we all know a chev one will fit

:? My bad, I just saw V8 diesel and ran with what I'd been thinking of doing. As to the 'yota mota I don't know. I just wanted something rediculous under the bonnet for the ever enjoyable "quiet Sunday drives with the family". To bad we cant all fit in the ute, I guess I'll just have to go alone :armsup: :armsup: :armsup:

Don't give up on the idea. A lot can be done with time, forethought and money. Go to a toyo dealership and do some measuring on a new car. or find a rental and do same.

If considering the Chev V8 disel, maybe look into the similar sized Duramax instead, it is supposed to be a much better engine.

The smaller 4.5 litre Duramax V8 diesel looks interesting, not sure if it is actually available or not.

The Tojo is a 90 deg 'V' hence it is much wider than the american iron.

Having said that it can fit...

I would probably buy an entire 70 series troopie rolled over and just put the HJ47 body on it, then you have a 70 series, that is just old school looking
hands and mums dont count!!!

thanks for the feedback fellas,i did alot of measuring and sizing up and decided that the toyoV8 apart from the $11000 for the motor was going to cost me a further 10G's to do the conversion.So i got a 6.2 chev in there instead and saved heaps.The toyoV8 just wouldn't fit anyway.

plus the underslung turbo on the 1VD-FTV makes it a pain to fit- have a look at a 70 series chassis- they had to notch the chassis to make the bloody things fit!
