Transfer Chain

Post by chugga »

When I decelerate my transfer chain has always made a noise. It only does it on decelerating. My other feroza makes the same noise. Just wondering do all ferozes have this inherit noise and if so can you tighten the chain?

Heres what can happen

So the noise is there when 4H or 4L is selected (not 2WD) and/or front hubs are locked?

I bought my Feroza with "Gearbox issues", after getting it home and some quick tests it was found to be the transfer - pulled it apart and, well, the pre-rebuild picture tells the story - the chain had snapped and luckily jammed itself tight against the plastic oil-distribution tube.

Unless your hubs are locked, or the box is in 4WD (4L or 4H) then the chain will not be moving at all, as the gear that controls it is in neutral while in 2wd, and the hubs would need to be locked for the forward motion to manually turn it.
