Grafting Gu diff centre into 80 series housing
Howdy,
Just wondering who has or know's someone who has done this?
im wanting to get a gu diff centre grafted into my 80 series diff housing,
so that its a gu centre with 80 spider gears and then run 80 series longfield cv's and axles,
so im chasing prices on to get it completely done, and how wide does the whole diff from hub to hub end up being? do the axles have to be modified to allow for the difference in the width of the diff?

Did a night trip with Wally in the ute years ago. It's an awesome car, and he's not afraid to use it.
It was set up for OBC when I was out with it - spare diff centres bolted in 'glass tray sides etc.

Is this so toyota guys can point to their diffs and try and tell people that they are still toyota instead of the easier option of just putting the complete diff under the car?

got an 80 with 37inch treps and external beadlocks, first winch comp we exploded a locked from diff, and then wrecked the open diff we swapped into it aswell,
Then Goat, the owner cut the center out and grafted a 75 series one in, but first it didnt get enough oil because of the pinion angle and wrecked the pinion bearings, then after filling it a bit extra we then somehow stripped the nut completely of the pinion and it came straigh of still attached to the tail shaft,
he is now going to buy the strengthened gear sets and try them, we are competing in winch comps so a fair bit of strain is put on the front diff when winching up some of the steeper winch walls..

See when i get mine done im going the gu centre straight up and run lonfields, then i know it can handle what i throw at it and dont have to worry about it letting me down when im racing or playing,

A GU front is plenty strong enough and cv and axles are only $220 to replace if you do happen to break one which I have not broken in 4 years of comps. It does come down to how you drive and I drive every hill that everybody else does.

A GU front is plenty strong enough and cv and axles are only $220 to replace if you do happen to break one which I have not broken in 4 years of comps. It does come down to how you drive and I drive every hill that everybody else does.

Look you can maybe get an 80 series Diff strong with grafting and what ever but the GU front in stock form is and will be strong enough. Replacment parts are everywhere and cheap so you can almost always finish the events. To some extent it is not always about strongest, it is also about available parts. There are 90% patrol winch challenge trucks compared to the rest and most of us have spare CV,s axles and diff centres at the race or sitting at home in the shed.

So yes, the panhard, radius arm, spring and shockie mounts have to be moved from the 80 series axle housing to the modified 60 series axle housing.
