hey guys, not sure if this is the best place to put this question to the masse, but i figured small blocks ore going into more than just cruiser's and patrol's. Moderators please feel free to tell me where to stick my post
How much (at a minimum) oil should i put into my chev V8 (first fill after build)? Only asking as i've found after some net searches a general requirement of 4qt (4.4~ L) plus filter, but these were on hotrod sites...i was concerned about any possible differences in the sump mainly on a 4x4 engine?
Guys with chev's in their 40's 45's 60's 80's MQ's GQ's etc i'm asking basically how much you put in.
Don't want to sound like a tard for asking, but i also don't want to hear a knocking at the proverbial door.
I'm also using an aftermarket bling dipstick, which i figure i will mark according to my filling needs
cheers Tim

Re: oil capacity in small block chev (307)
cheers guys,
I've got 4.5 L in to be 'safe' so that should at least be plenty to crank it over without the plugs in, I'll probably add a little more once its running.
351ciofgrunt, I wasn't sure if I had a dipstick that was too long/short for my sump, which has been that case with a mate of mine; The dipstick in his cleveland had been showing full, so he assumed it was full (he bought the vehicle with the engine in it). Every now and then he'd hear a little knock pulling up to traffic lights after a long cruise up the highway...figured the oil pump was on its way out...drained the oil to pull the sump off and replae the oil pump...only 1L comes out.
Having had this happen to someone i know, i thought it'd be reasonable to ask for a round-about volume and work on the law of averages.
Much appreciated, Thanks
