D4d conversion into ln65 dual cab

Post by highersurf »

Hi just wondering if anyone has done a d4d conversion into earlier Hilux I'm looking at doing I full resto and thought this would be a great conversion as I'm not sparing any expense on it. Thoughts?

From my experience, back it off a generation and cram in a 1KZ-TE motor- I wedged one into my LN106, and its not that hard.

The differnence between a 1KZ and a 1KD (the D4D motor) is that the 1KZ has one ecu with 70 odd wires, and the D4D has THREE ECU's with about 250 wires!

if money is no issue then go d4d, i have owned vehicles with 1kz and 1kd(d4d) engines and the d4d is far better in power, torque and economy.

I say go for it, Hardest part will be the electronics. But will be possible. i would suggest buying either a complete wreck, or make sure you get all the wiring from the car, aswell as igniton barell, immobiliser module, etc.

There was a shorty Cruiser posted up on here a while ago that had a 1KD motor modded with a manual fuel pump (from 1KZT ?) with a new turbo (standard 1KDFTV has variable turbo needing electronics). So it was non common rail 4 valve 3.0L turbo diesel, less power and economy but no electronics.

Doing that you loose all the advantages of the variable turbo and common rail though. And i would think it would be cheaper to get the electronics sorted than change pump and turbo.
