Room between inner/outer guard in 80

Post by rowenb »

Just had to take out parker lamps and had a quick look up in the guard cavity and was thinking of what could be put in there and if anyone has used this space besides the obvious snorkel.

This is just a thought but what about running air to air intercooler piping through the inner outer guard instead of the usual past the alternator? Anyone?

I don't think you will achieve anything. The length of run will stil be long and could actually be longer than the engine bay path and dropping it back out of the inner gap will still have to be down in the wheel well just infront of the radiator panel and then I think you will hae to dodge the indicators etc as you come across. Haven't looked at that area for a while as mines apart but I don't see where you'll pick up any benefit except maybe not having to kick around the engine components as much. ?It would also depend if you need the area along the guards in the engine bay for accessories like air compressor etc otherwise you start to run out of entry/exit points. Also wher edo you come back in, if the passenger side you still have to modify your inlet point or do a 180 degree sweep back into the manifold. Again as much as dodginf stuff inside is a pain I don't think you are getting any real benefit for what is still a lot of work. You would also have a fiar length of tube inside the cavity you now have to support and it's hard to get in there to bolt things up.

Stick a grinder in there. Then stick some 39's in there.
