Alternator Conversion (is this even possible)

hey fellas,
Just wondering if it is going to be possible to replace the alternator on my old 3Y with the Alternator from a 4Y? has anyone ever done this before & if so what modifications will I need to make?

It's a long and boring story, but to make it short I was given the wrong part by the wreckers (I think after I ripped his head off cause he refused to pull it off the car after I'd phoned ahead to make sure he had one & drove an hour to pick it up!) SO I'm now stuck with a 4Y Alternator that I need to make fit as I need the old girl back on the road ASAP, Any advice muchly appreciated

Hi,

Have you looked at them side by side? What physical differences are there? You may be able to answer your question yourself.


On a side note our listings at work list the same alt for both engines

It will be a straight swap no drama if it physically mounts where your original one is. Electrically it will hook up the same.
