Alternator Conversion (is this even possible)

Post by BillV »

hey fellas,
Just wondering if it is going to be possible to replace the alternator on my old 3Y with the Alternator from a 4Y? has anyone ever done this before & if so what modifications will I need to make?

It's a long and boring story, but to make it short I was given the wrong part by the wreckers (I think after I ripped his head off cause he refused to pull it off the car after I'd phoned ahead to make sure he had one & drove an hour to pick it up!) SO I'm now stuck with a 4Y Alternator that I need to make fit as I need the old girl back on the road ASAP, Any advice muchly appreciated :D

Hi,

Have you looked at them side by side? What physical differences are there? You may be able to answer your question yourself.

On a side note our listings at work list the same alt for both engines

It will be a straight swap no drama if it physically mounts where your original one is. Electrically it will hook up the same.
