83 MQ SD33 in the USA & the new guy...

Yep I am new to this forum...so hello ALL!

I live in the USA and bought 6 weeks ago an 83 SWB MQ in left hand drive with SD33, it is 24v. The truck is green with white top and tan interior. I will be using a lot of black, silver and green on it as I customize the truck....out with most the tan! It comes from Germany but has been in the USA many years. These are very rare in the states as less than 20 have ever been imported. I got the truck fairly cheap and it has 330kilos. Motor is rebuilt completely with new Nissan head and reciepts over $3k. The motor is another post though... :roll:

Instead of ask a bunch of question in my first post I will tell you what I have planned for the truck. Of course feel free to tell me if my plan/ideas are trash...!

I bought it to play in, I need a P-troll that is not a classic that I can enjoy and beat to hell without caring. I have plenty of 60 series Patrols...you know G60's. Even just bought a 1980 LG61 I am importing to the USA. Yet, the MQ is strictly for build up and play. So I want to lift it 4", would like this to be all in the springs. 33-35"x9.5x16 rims and tires. Going to turbo the non-turbo SD33 and fit an intercooler....3" exhaust. Will then add Safari snorkel and a prefilter. I want to chop the bottom off the body and tuck it under, not ugly but done nicely. Then use the new area to run rock sliders in rear and sides. Custom bumpers with maybe a PTO in front if I can find one. Rear bumper prepped for rear electric winch. Rear winch mounted where stock spare tire mounts. Tow points on all 4 sides of the truck. Brush wires from front bumper to roof. 6 point roll cage inside cab with a series of oh sh!t handles that can have various uses. Mastercraft buckets in front with a single one mounted center in rear. Custom console, over head console also. CB, LOUD stereo and GPS. All new sound deading material. Custom tool boxes and shovel/axe mounted in rear. Spare tire mounted in rear. ARB lockers in both C200 diffs. Thinking about using a Cabstar 5spd or a late 80's Patrol 5spd. Mostly for the 5th gear and lower 1st. Also if using Patrol 5spd I may go with a gear mod. Custom skid plates for the tranny/transfer and diff pumpkins. Would like to switch to free wheeling manual hubs instead of the stock auto-whatever. I already started ripping out the stock carpet and panels. Going to have the entire inside Rihno lined. Interior panels will be custom made, maybe from diamond plate. Custom map pockets and other mounts on interior pannels. MK steering wheel or a custom one. 4-point harness for all three bucket seats. Few new gauges including tach. Large volume compressor and tank to run impact tools off or filling tires. Rack above hard top cab only with small but bright lights. Few other things like new mirrors and retro 80's side graphics. Will use powder coating on a variety of things inside, outside and under the truck.

Um..I think that is about it. :D

I realize it is a long post for the first one...at least I didn't ask a thousand questions! So what do you think, am I wasting my time and money on this MQ? Any thing I should re-think or that you would change? I am an open minded man but a thick headed guy! So say what ever you like.... ;)

They are getting rare here! I need a clutch master cylinder for one! send me one over and I'll send you back something for your MQ. There are stacks of them things over here, people can't give them away. sometimes I can't get to work in the morning cause all the roads have been blocked off with derelict MQ's!! :silly:

just joking, but I really am after a clutch master. you have a spare one??

single or dual circut?

Just sold a dual circut but will be getting more in stock and can ship to you no probs, probily won't like the price though. I have a pile of single circuts, all used, super cheap. I can supply electronic ignition kits to fit the stock Hitachi distro also. name it for the 60 series....more than likely I can get any thing you may ever want. Besides Marks adaptors he no longer makes. :cry: Are you maybe looking for an original steering wheel?? I picked one up over seas at a Nissan dealer. it is brand new and in the box, sitting on the shelf 25 years or so! Really really nice wheel. You may be suprised but I even have a source for ALL 60 series body parts, brand new made from steel. Let's just say I have contacts. :cool:

Only 2616 60 series sold in the USA from 1961-1969 with 975 being S/T. All in SWB. I have a 64 ragtop under full frame off resto and it is super rare in the USA. I even have a stock complete PTO with winch for the truck that is near perfect. The 64 ragtop is going to be very very nice....looks stock but will be mean, a sleeper as we call it hear. I am so into Patrols I just bought over seas a 1980 LG61 and will be importing it to the USA January 1st 2005 the minute it turns 25 years old! it is super cool with basically a MQ chassis, P40 and 60 series body. As I am told there is 200 G61's ever sold in Oz during 1980 only...and mine is left hand drive! I am super excited about this truck as I can get ARB's for both diffs plus it in real nice condition. It will be the first LG61 in the USA.

I feel there is over 2000 60 series Patrols still alive in the states. Nobody threw the trucks away as they so tough and so rare! I have heard they getting rare from other people over there but nothing like here. I can find G60's all day in OZ for sale...even old factory UTE's so I know you got a ton of them around.

Awww...man look what I have done. You just mention a 60 series and I start blahing! :twisted:

I need a lot for my MQ as you can see by the pics...what you got to trade? I just bought few minutes ago a complete turbo with manifolds for super good price but otherwise I need things.

yaya...just some 60 series P-trolls! Both USA trucks though. The grey one with a oragne cage is a 63. a 1963 is very rare in the USA as the older the more rare. It is not a patrol anymore though. He built the frame, it has a Dana60 (i think) in the rear on coils. The front is a Dana44 on leafs I believe or maybe Toyo. All you see there that is P-troll is whats left of the body.

The red one is a 69. It is stock other than the winch, flares, roof glass, mirrors and so forth. it has been painted though. Belongs to a man with a 68 that he is restoring, the red 69 is his toy.

I recently sold both my good 60 series. One was a 64 and one was a 66. the 66 has 40k original miles, stock tool kit, stock radio, a real museum piece. The 64 I built up just a bit. Lift, Weber carb, and few other things. My 64 is on the site, it was baby blue. The 66 of mine was red with "4x4" on the side. I sold the red 66 for $10k USA and the 64 for $7500. Like I say they are rare over here. Since I sold my 2 good 60's though I am back to the projects, I usually spend way more damn time working on trucks then wheeling them! :cry:

I been reading through old posts here on this forum, thats why I am still here. Can't believe it took me this long to find this forum. Sooooo much good info in here. :armsup:

OD green one is from Venuzuela...early 70's if I recall right. It is restored and basically stock. He had the rear doors removed then welded it up solid. He says it makes the body much stronger in the rear. The guy driving it is real nice and so is his truck.

You should see some of the ones I saw and drove in S.America. SOA LG61 running 34's, MQ power steering fitted, header and electronic ignition. It is real sweet and I was amazed at the power of the P40 engine. Or how about this...my 1980 LG61 I just bought two weeks ago.

That is right, the LG61 is 2500mm or MWB. The SWB or plain 60 (L60) is 2200mm and the very rare LWB is 2700mm. The LWB didn't come about untill the 1970's in either the van or wagon models. VG60 or WG60....which before that was a MWB. The pickups are built on the 2700mm frame and so are the fire trucks, starting in the early 70's. Before that the pickups were MWB built on the G60 frame. So you can say that an early pickup is a SWB truck.

"L" denotes left hand drive, "G" denotes MWB and the "61" is the series. A SWB right hand drive 60 should just be a plain 60 series. Although they did change this around later on to be 60U.

the part that i point 2, left hand tie rod end,

just wondering if the part that i pointed 2 in the pic below is still available over there brand new ??? i need one of these i an am doing a custom setup and instead of reverse tapering my RHD job if i had a left hand one it wood go straight in...

any info wood b awesome even a part number so i can try tracking it here ??

Heya Hypolux..

Nissan never sold anything for the MQ over here. This truck was imported to the USA in 1988. Matter of fact they (Nissan) has not sold anything for the Patrol newer than 1969 here. Not only that Nissan won't ship us parts from overseas and we now suffer a ban from overseas Nissan dealers so we can't get jack sh!t. Believe it or not I even wrote letters to Japan trying to get parts and got a few, very expensive parts too. Then they stopped getting me anything. So I took it upon myself to change this BS and the result is RMP&O. So Nissan USA has no part numbers for any Patrol newer than 1969...for the most part. This means no part number as I also have not got the books I need on the MQ.

Yet, I can get you the tie rod end no problem in LHD. My parts come from outside the USA, usually not from Nissan but 3/4 of the time are Nissan parts. Also reasonably priced I feel for the USA and these trucks. The only prob is I am not a rich man so have not been able to stock a lot. It has to be ordered up and I am doing an order soon. So if you can be patient I can get yoou the tie rod and any thing else you may need. Just email me through my website listed in my sig...

And just so you all know...I didn't come here trying or wanting to sell any parts. I came here to learn some things but if you need a part or some parts I would be happy to do everything I can to get it to you. :cool:

Do you want a set if genuine nissan workshop manuals, I have two sets plus an aftermarket manual? Suits all MQ, MK and the 79-80 g60's.

That tie-rod end is exactly the same between G60 & MQ/MK anyway.
the G60 doesn't run the intermediate idler arm though (in this country anyway)
theoretically you could put G60 knuckles on your GQ front housing and run shithouse drum brakes!

if u need a clutch master cylinder for a mk, go buy a newy from repco, mine only cost me $35, they retail for $50.99 howeva, part number is ( JB1431 ). hope this helps

You know...I researched this a bit. Not for drums on a GQ but for discs on a G60. I was comparing the C200 MQ to the C216 G60 though. I had hoped to bolt the C200 knukle with discs and all right on the C216 G60 front diff. It looked like it was going to work untill I found out the short axle stub from the C200 is a touch longer. I also researched putting the C200 under the G60 and springs are just about 1/2" different so it will work will little mods. I could be wrong about the stub axle as I was told by a Patrol mechanic and did not measure the axle myself. I did compare the two in my shop not disassembled. Just never got the time to tear them both down and give it a try.....

all the patrol stuff is very interchangable, it just takes a bit of research to find out which other bits need to be swapped to allow the bits that you want to swap to be swappable :crazyeyes:

alot of navara/pathfinder (xterra?) stuff is usable too.
