Ranger XLT Vs Triton GLR

Post by shortgq »

I'm lucky enough to find myself in the position of having to choose between these two supplied by work. WHich would you choose mostly for sand, touriing and easy bush work.

I've already discounted the navara D40 as the ones i've seen plough their way through sand and the colorado as it feels sluggish and drives like a whale!

Most likely a diesel auto as well which ever I choose!

I'm biassed, and I know SFA about the Ranger, but I would have no reservations about taking a Triton.

Either would suitable. MN's still have a bit of a shortage of aftermarket accessories due to there relatively recent release although it's getting better every day.
Personally i'd take the triton, only because i like the ergonomics better.

tritons nice to drive but shit tray size
I like the idea of the 3.0 as opposed to a more highly stressed 2.5

i'm lucky enough to get to drive all these utes on a regular basis, and the pick of the bunch is the ranger/bt50. much nicer in every way to a triton.

Before you buy a triton look at this one of "rats" on downunder
After 26ks I noticed that something did not look right with the back of Ron's truck.

I got out and had a look - his chassis was bent over the wheel arch, and his tow-bar was about a foot closer to the ground than it should be.

Haha, geez that'd suck! From my experience the Triton would be my pick. The ones ive driven around seem to take a good punishing and keep going with no dramas. IMO mitsu seem to be one of the best built 4wds next to Toyota. The Ranger on the other hand, feels like they go better (iv never actually compared them side by side) but are very thirsty on fuel and the auto just doesnt seem to match with the engine well. Fuel economy wouldnt matter being a work car for you though . BTW i dont own either, iv just driven them quite a few times.

I had a ML triton as my own personal car and have used rangers at work on a regular basis, I perfer the triton in everyway.

I also would rather the 3.2 over the new 2.5 in the MN's, seems a bit weird to go backwards in capacity. Cost cutting i guess?

I have heard of navaras and also rangers with chassis problems like that, I think the chassis in all the new Thailand built utes are a bit under sized.

i think that may be more of the owners fault than the vehicle..........wrong vehicle for the job its being asked to do.

I'd hazard a guess it was wayyyyy past its GVM + max towing capacity.

C'mon James - be fair. Mitsubishi haven't responded yet.

Give them a chance to make their excuses, then crucify them. Perhaps you can invite the owner to come here and tell us about it?

Good to see you have your bases covered before you go to war with Mitsubishi ;)

I read it wasnt due back home till the 3rd, is this still the case?

Hope it goes well and Mitsubishi or insurance comes to the party.

The triton is probably a better car (and tows 3k) - but I think in D/C they have to be the single ugliest car on the market.
That would have me getting a ranger

I stand corrected - although I wouldn't count it as a car!

Ive driven both on regular days and my pick would be triton. Found Ranger very thirsty on fuel and auto not matched to engine, interior in ranger not as good and the new triton now have constant 4wd on road and factory diff lock as an option

Nosey over to "Other makes" for info on the BT50/Ranger twins - some not too happy ppl there.

All 1 tonne ute brands are flawed, it's a matter of picking which flaws you can live with.

The triton is ok once you replace the sh1t oem suspension.

I could never have a Ranger. Even if it was free, due to the ford badge.
The BT50 is a sweet ride for a "soft" 4WD.
