Red Rover TD42 Swap from TB42

Red Rover started on his TD42 engine swap today.

Dropped around after voting and this is what I saw....

A Mav with Red rover power. Just remember the bald spot is a solar panel for a _______ machine. Shame the tarp is providing shade. :twisted:

It's good to see there is a "Powerpak" left..... :D

Now the work is checked by the expert....... :cool:

It should be illegal to get that excited over a N/A TD42 block..... :lol:

Oops it won't fit without removing that engine mount (due to extractors remaining in engine bay.

Soon after I left them to it..... and I may let Red Rover put a different spin on it all.

Tell us if you had any problems with that 24v Jap import motor......

Hey mate,

Any lift on that patrol ?? Reason for asking - i have a fairly lifted patrol which im taking my 2.8 out pretty shortly and puttin a 4.2 in and would an engine crane do the job - im thinking it prolly wont - may have to use a H frame with a block and tackle.

Yeah it has some lift, about 3 or 4" coils + 285's.......

The enigine crane did the job only on the longest boom setting, supposedly only 1/2 ton rated out there though.

We were talking about giving it a 2 or 3" body lift where the vertical section bolts down & two longer straps at the back seeing as it has seen a number of patrol motors (Rough tally would be 4 TB42, at least 3 TD42, a 308 & more stuff before that too.....

And who would be the person that took a bunch of photo's and bolted after he had to get his hands dirty help guide the engine into the engine bay? :D

It all went pretty well for a drive in and out weekend petrol to diesel conversion.
I still can't work out why my engine bay has the same spare space with the engine in as his does with it out.

You could do what I did to do an engine swap under my house, when we were ready to lift it out we swapped the front tyres for a pair of rusty/bent 15 inch rims with no tyres on them, gained us 6 inches.

its alive ITTSSS AAALLLIIIVVEEEE. We think it had a bit of carbon under a valve cause it had a bit a a stutter & something shot out the exhaust after driving it for 10 mins It then picked up a bit of power as well. drove it to the bribie roundabout 100kph in 3 gear and it is good now. The fuel was wwaayyy to rich, leaned it back and is good. No smoke YAHOOOO! NOW wheres that safari turbo? :)

Still sitting under the bonnet of a white GQ that rarely goes out anymore.

As for getting my hands dirty, I didn't even do that, due to the nice clean petrol that was in it. :finger:

Now that sooty thing in there will mean I will get my hands dirty when you eventually get that V8 you have wanter for so long & all that pipe gets pulled out. :cool:
