Well I got a passenger seat frame kindly given to me today so I can take both seats off to the trimmers for some new bases and backs. Plus this morning, I dropped all the brake shoes off to get rebonded - they were low but one of the linings fell off a shoe when I pulled the drum off. Seemed prudent to do them all

Looked like it had been restored, nice poo brown colour...

I suspect what you saw was a Pinzgauer, it was probably green up close.

A mate of mine who has a business (Rhino ute linings)in Forge street owns it.

Haffy is about 1/2 as big as a Pinz. Trust me, you'll know when you see a Halflinger!

haffies are awsome machines i had two of them over here in scotland one was a soft top and one fibre glass full cab version, they have front+rear diff locks and will go anywhere i tookmine on an offroad demo course when the vitara was launched and kicked there arse

I have three Haflingers and a fully restored Pinzgauer! They are all amazing off road!

And the Pinzgauer would flog a Unimog off road! i know some guys who have both and they swear by the Pinz and swear at the Mog! And the pinz is also better on road!

There was a documentary probably 18 years ago called "Call of the wild" where 2 blokes had a nice big catamaran and a haflinger and toured up through the cape and to thursday island. They too fitted bobcat tyres and had difflocks, it was awesome.

Hey mate you would be best aiming at the American market! they pay a lot more over there as they are rarer like the pinzgauer here, It would be a win win you would get more money for the haffy and they would pay less then they would if they got one from America.

If you sell it in Aus a reasonable price would be $7500.

Been wondering what offroad tyres I can get for a skinny 12" rim.....

Someone else has discovered 5.70-12 bobcat tyres!

I use to have one years ago and the top speed was 48 mph on the plate inside the cab, apparently there were two different ratio's for them and also if your chasing some rims of memory i used fiat 124 or around that era as they have the same stud pattern. I hope you enjoy your new toy i know i did.

Fiat rims are the best option as you can get a greater variety of tyres!

How often do these things come up for sale? I drive an FSM Niki (2cyl car) every day and I'd love a haflinger to go with it. Plus then I could go offroading with my mate in his patrol:P

I'm looking for an average to poor condition one, since I dont want to take a show car through the bush.

How come the ones I've seen photos of have had no number plates? I've seen at least one on the roads in SA, so they must be registerable..

Nice mate!

I have 2 FSM Nikki's myself great little car! As for the Haflingers they are registrable, but hard to come by! they are mostly sold by word of mouth. We currently have 3 all of which we purchased by being in the right place at the right time. I will keep an eye out and post it up to see who is interested. *no garuntee i will find another and not want to get it myself its an addiction!*

Update - not a very exciting video but it runs under its own power. I still have a binding brake issue to look at and needs a tune up but feels like making some progress.....and it has seats now!

Well we took the Haflinger out for a trip yesterday... The trip was a mix of steep rutted climbs, and sloppy water logged tracks...

The verdict is the Haflinger is one mean machine off road! it got us everywhere we demanded all be it with plenty of time on 3 or sometimes 2 wheels! the first climb sore the complete front end up in the air for a reasonable length of time. But typically when the best moments happened there were no cameras about too capture it!
