Step back and seriously think what your doing.... Selling a TOYOTA for a POOtrol.... :finger: dont do it.... any toyota is better than a Nissan...

Keep the forty depending on condition yours is in probly wount get more than 5K for it anyway... so your better off keeping it and just get another 4B...to soft road...

It really comes down to whether you're a 40 enthusiast or not. I wouldn't compete in any other 4x4 (even though I nearly burned mine a couple of years back when I couldn't get any kind or reliability from it) just because it's a 40.

If you are a genuine 40 lover, you may think of selling it, but you never would. They do suck as a daily and/or tourer, I don't care what anyone says.

Sell the old 40 to a 'enthusiast' and buy the GU, the 4wd with the strongest driveline out there.

And this is exactly what I need - not a play toy / comp truck

That's what I'm saying, you don't have a 40 for practical reasons, it's just because you want one. Same with an old v8 holden/ford/chev etc you might drive on weekends. You don't drive it because it has great fuel economy or it's lavishly appointed, you like style and something with some heritage and a bit different.

seems to be plenty of tidy early GU's with the 4.5s for similar money.Yeah they have around 300k on them but looked after should have life left in them.
2.8s for that coin are definately around, just seem to be a more troublesome engine, though definately cheaper to run

you know it'll hurt but you'll get over it everytime you can use your new forby to do car jobs! plus when you do go off road you will have something that will be heaps better in everyway ie. more comfy, capable, has a greater payload, won't leave you with as sore a back and you can drive, rather then limp, home. Personally I would avoid the big petrol hugry 4.5 and go either the TD42 ( turbo essential ) or the ZD30 ( not as popular but more efficient ) I know where you're at and there's nothing worse than having a machine you love just sitting there costing rego and doing nothing. Don't know why people get so attached to a brand? I have gone Nissan because they are cheaper for the same type of machine, that said the GU is so much better than a 100 series in my opinion.....good luck with making the tough choice

I'm looking at 4.5's ATM and they START at 13 (Odd one at 11 but  stuffed) most are around 15

keep searching the odd cheap one does come up.

i found one in brissy on ebay for 8g or best offer.

it was a 4.5 manual on gas and fairly low k's it had about a 3 inch lift, roof rack cage, snorkle and a few minor shopping trolley dents. plus it had rego i think. i asked the guy to hold it for me but somebody made him an offer before i got there and he accepted 7 for it.

i picked up my 99 model ti pretty cheap and that had all the options plus a winch.

but i didnt realise how much fuel the auto drank. on gas it wouldn't have been so bad plus a manual conversion was the plan in the first place.

maybe check out the police auctions aswell.

Thanks the encouragement Twon :finger:

Mate to be honest the 40 was not what I need. I can't afford to run two vehicles and the 40 just isn't cut out for driving to and from work daily, even long distances were doubtful.

And besides... the price i was offered was too good to turn down
