Hello everybody...Ive got a big problem..but at first Infos to my car...

Toyota 4 Runner (LN61) 1988
Its an Import...2.4 litre Turbo Diesel

A friend of mine and me have replace the timing belt...including the tinsioner pully and the idler pully...The marking poinst have been alright.....after this one we have cleaned the Air filter...its a Uni....????? dont know the thing...but you used oil after cleaning and drying....i hope you know what i mean...but heres the problem!!!!!

I have absolutely no power....is such a big difference from before......there comes alot of smoke out of the exhaust....and it needs a lot of time before the engine is running.....rrrrhhhrrr....rhhhrrrr....and after 10 Seconds the engine starts...but you must push the gas pedal...ohterwise it turns off again.....and the Car is louder than before.....

the next problem is the turbo comes far too early....i was driving on the Highway with 80 Kmh with Turbo all the time....

Whats wrong....???? is the timing bad....must i adjust it???? Or it is anything with the Airfilter...maybe we used to much oil....Im very disspointed....it turned all in a nightmare....i

sounds a bit like the timing is out, that would explain the lack of power, hard starting, and smokey exhaust. Mine did the same wen i changed injector pumps before the pump it self was tuned properly, and it also made the exhaust change notes and appear louder although it did still start easily. did u return all of the timing marks to top dead centre? although if the filter is chooked up with to much oil it may be starving of air, did u use the right oil for it and how did u apply it?, u can always check to see if its the filter simply by removing the air filter and give it a run with out it, it wont hurt it, just dont go without it for to long and dont leave the air box open for shit to fall in there, drive on a dirt road etc ( that will at least eliminate the filter from ur problem)

I'd suggest the timing (probably fuel pump) is out by 1 tooth. Easy mistake

Thx for the answers.....you mean with fuel pump the injection pump, don't you....

I also think its the injection pump ....but at first i will remove the airfilte...so i can eliminate if the airfillter is the problem thx@tezza88

if is not the problem then i must check the timing marks again....the timings are following...camshaft gear 3o'clock, crankshaft gear 12o'clock and injection pump 12 o'clock....i hope thats okay...

How can i test it without a the f+++ing work(remove radiator, fan and so on)...

and when i turn the crankshaft gear (with timing belt) to test ....its okay so...or must i anything remove (glow plugs or something else)

late combustion? causing detonation to late and too much reaction happening within the dump pipe?

This might explain why the turbo is spooling earlier.

I would be advancing the injection pump one tooth and testing again.

Stuffing up the air filter could give you low power and smoke but would not be letting your turbo spool very well - so i think you can rule that one out.

......juhu...done...it works....only one tooth at the injection pump...it starts immediatly and everything is fine....thx guys....

its a very good forum...see ya later with more troubles:D
