Standard 80's GXL Diff ratio
I searched and looked etc couldn't find out..
I need too replace the front diff in a 91 GXL 4.2 1HZ 80's 5speed Manual Disk Brakes Full Time T-Case.
I can't really pull the diff out and find out that was as it's my Drive Car ATM.
The Bearings in it are sloppy and I want too replace it before it lets go being full time. The diff's done 400xxxkms +

Re: Standard 80's GXL Diff ratio
IF in doubt, u can call a totoya spare parts dealer and if u quote ur VIN number thay can look it up in a few seconds and tell u exactly wot it was in ur car specificaly wen it left the show room floor and its free. or the website http://www.toyodiy.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; may also be a good reference for you, its a great web site for diagrams, part numbers etc and again if u type in ur VIN number its all the info directly relating to your car

I thought they had a hilux front diff??? Hopefully you find a replacement easy enough (and cheap enough).

Re: Standard 80's GXL Diff ratio
Ben
If you know how to strip and rebuild a diff it would be cheaper to rebearing it mate.... I have a 5.29 pinion kit for a front 80 series bearings solid spacer seals and shims.. if your interested.
What do you mean by sloppy?????? is there a lot of backlash or up and down movement in the pinion bearings..... If its backlast rebearing it wont fix that problem but a simple and easy adjust ment will. If its the bearings yes replace them.

The diff's done 400xxxkms + and there is a HEAP of back lash in it and I can move the driveshaft any way by hand. Having traveled so far I'd rather rebuild the whole front end. I have a mate that does my diff's for me (00ZUK ) and I haven't broken them in the MQ

Just put a new set of bearings in it and adjust the backlash 0.006 - 0.008". Should be all good. Only a daily driven car anyway isn't it??

They are a similar design to the hilux diff, but they are much stronger and bigger, and not interchangeable.Ricko wrote:I thought they had a hilux front diff??? Hopefully you find a replacement easy enough (and cheap enough).
The worst part about being told you have Alzheimer's, is that it doesn't just happen once.
Re: Standard 80's GXL Diff ratio
Ok well I now have a new gear set and full set's of bearing's. All I really need is a 3rd member too put it all in.
