transfer case swap

I have a 2.8 td patrol with reduction gears in the transfer case, and i also have a s w b patrol with a 4.2 petrol in it. I want to swap the transfer cases over from one car to the other. Is this posible to be done can anyone let me no thanks.

i think they are the same interenals but the housing may be different for the smaller gearbox but pretty sure they are the same.

Driveshaft flanges will probably need changing over to match yours already in the truck.

Driveshaft flanges to swap over
Input shaft cover plates need to be swapped over too ( there is an oil scoop on the 2.8 one which will foul the 4.2 box)
shifter linkages need to be swapped over too ( IE keep the 2.8 one in the 2.8 car and the 4.2 one in the 4.2 car)
other than that they are much the same

Oh, forgot - the 2.8 one needs to be resealed to the gearbox with the correct silcone stuff, as the front of the transfer actually seals the rear of the gearbox. The 4.2 doesnt require this.
Therefore you need to drain the 2.8 gearbox of oil or you will get wet.
