Fellows Im from the U.S. and own a small company called 4wheelunderground. I build link suspension systems for the earlier Toyota Mini trucks and 4runners. I was woundering if someone here could teach me a bit about the lift laws and vehicle requierments of street driven vehicles that also see considerable offroad use.

dont know about eleswhere, but legal height in qld is 2 inch raised or lowered, but most people go for around a 4 inch if they are doing lots of offroading, some go more, some go less

I know in Victoria a 2 inch cab lift is allowed and 2 inch Suspension lift, well that's what I was told when consulting an engineer. Best thing to do would be to phone the local Authorities. Vicroads couldn't care less along as an engineer signs off on it

Basically the only way to be certain it won't get questioned is to have lots of money and be a mass producer. Like Toyota and Nissan and the rest of the big names. Alot of their vehicles don't pass all the rules and regulations set for people building (or modifying) individual vehicles.

Wow, that blows. So thats why you guys build so many off road only vehicles.
So if you guys were welding on suspensio brackets and stuff what would it cost (estimate only please) for front and rear?

Pretty sure its illegal to weld to the chassis for a road reg car but other states might be different.

when lowering you have to maintain 100mm ground clearance and also maintain 2/3rds suspension travel

The post saying that welding to the chassis is illegal is not exactly right. Alot of Engineered rigs have welded stuff too the chassis.
Really though you should take everything you read in this thread with a grain of salt, and my post was more cynical than anything.
Your best bet would be to speak to one of the fabricators/garages in Australia that regularly deals with Engineers. There are a number of businesses/people on this forum that do this kind of work regularly and get it engineered.
