Running in a Common Rail 3L/first thoughts
Running in a Common Rail 3L/first thoughts
Well i have not been lucky enough to get the keys to a spanker until this thursday (another suto) You hear so many conflicting run in stories on the smaller turbo diesels i thought i would ask those in the know and possibly some who have no idea but will make suggetsions in any case
Short runs good long runs bad ?
Rev it dont rev it?
Some suggest taking it easy at the start will lead to a lazy engine? which is the last thing i need Or how long till i start getting into it.
Normal driving style would be considered 'hard' then plenty of hiway work.
Pick up thurs then heading south sunday so little 'run in' time.

Re: Running in a Common Rail 3L ???
Why do you bother even asking?
If the general consensus is to take it easy initially, you are just going to ignore them and drive like you normally do!
Mods, delete this thread!
Seriously though, I dont know these motors specifically but i was under the impression that a complete range of driving is needed to run them in. varying speeds, varying acceleration, different gears.

Re: Running in a Common Rail 3L ???
most motors prefer higher load but not too much rpm to help the rings bed in! then after a couple of hundred kays go for gold
Why bother it will probably go boom anyway

Re: Running in a Common Rail 3L ???
Most prob will go boom but warranty is my friend and nissans enemy and will not drive a 3L without warranty for the rest of my life
Pick it up thurs then rubber lift snorkel going friday to start so only have 2 days really to "run in" before big hiway runs start. Then should one avoid cruise and keep altering revs like was suggested and would do when running in bikes etc.
As Vanbox suggested if i drive it as norm it will have a pretty hard run in and dont want to risk early damage... later damage is ok

I second Vanbox- --- mods delete this thread on relevance ---
We know you're just going to gas it anyway
Now starts the test - can the common rail handle what no other Patrol in Bingham history has done - i.e, not blow up

Re: Running in a Common Rail 3L ???
First thoughts...
Rear aircon is sweet as is cruise.
Head unit with auxillary or usb makes ipod listentng dam good as does 6 stacker.
Motor and box very tight as you would expect while suggestions of common rails being down on power compared to non CRD i dont feel is warranted. Have only half revved it out a couple of times and goes ok. Wont once all the shit goes on however

Re: Running in a Common Rail 3L ???
I love it how everyone gives it to the 3L..... I work in the forklift industry and they use the tb42 and td42s in 5 to 7 toners and I have lost count of how many td42 have droped valves into pistons so they are not as bullet proof as everyon makes out.
gas grass or arse no one rides for free
Re: Running in a Common Rail 3L/first thoughts
am guessing they dont use the 3L in than indsustry but ??? they a good motor when under warranty not sure outside it.
First thoughts after 3000kms. Drives noticably nicer than the old one 06 even with the lift just fitted. efs 3 inch front and 4 inch rear. Boxes water tanks roof rack and roof top camper snorkel 2 nd battery and winch in next couple wks and she sits just slightly higher in rear which is perfect. Factory winch bar and ipfs are great. Old Micky t's on it and humming nicely. Much quieter motor wise it appears and does not smell 1/10th as bad when idling. AC is sensational and rear aircon is awesome makign fridge happy and cooling car insanely quick.
Ran it in and what i would call 75% driving style so far but starting to get into it now. no rock ship but goes ok.
First impressions are good and hopefully many issue free kms to come!
