SWB patrol grinding when stopping

Post by freddy246 »

my shorty makes this terrible grinding noise everytime i almost come to a complete stop (at about 5kmph). sounds like its coming from the front drivers side but its kinda hard to hear where these sort of noises come from. Any ideas to what it could be? it also makes a grinding noise from 95-105kmph not sure if they are related or not but its annoying cause you either have to speed or go slow on the highway. any help would be appreciated? thanks

is your shorty lifted? if so, we had the same problem with my sisters shorty, turned out to be actually coming from the rear drive shaft,

in saying that, theres nothing sayin that you dont have wheel bearing problems, or something else

The grinding as you come to a stop could mean that a brake pad is worn down to the metal, check your pads

Well if it's your rear uni joints causing the problem then you could try either running a double cardan uni joint or dropping the gearbox xmember down with spacers or converting your rear diff to a high pinion

we tried fitting gear box cross member spacers, which helped a touch, we then fitted adjustable upper arms, which helped a bit more,

we finaly fixed it by fitting a hi pinion rear diff, now no dramas what so ever,
