Transfer swaps

Post by -Mick- »

I'm looking at buying a S3 in 1.3 case ready to go and putting it in my lwb which has the 1l driveline.

Is it just the xfer mounts that are different? Will it bolt up otherwise?

I did a bit of a search but I'm feeling lazy

Cheers

The transfer ounts are different but the one off your 1 litre case will fit on the new transfer.
The big problem is the driveshaft flanges are different so the driveshafts won't fit and depending on what model youe 1 litre is you may or may not be able to change the flanges over as there are 2 different spline sizes, I think the change was in 84 the same as when they changed the internals.

buy the case

swap the arms and flanges

if they don't swap over, sell the case again

If possible - find out what year the x-fer case is out of - that will tell you what flanges you need to mate up to it (widetracks came with two different sized flanges - do a search - there's a thread about it). Then it's just a simple matter of knocking out some unis and hooking it all up again.
