1hdt exhaust manifold upgrade ?

Post by gatto45 »

Hey guys
Im looking at upgrading the turbo on my hdj80 soon to a garret gt2860 or something around size, wat my problem is fitting a t25 turbo flange on the garret onto the factory ct26 exhaust manifold.
Ive searched around an all i can find is an adapter plate that i can get from the states.
Just wondering if anyone knows of or has an aftermarket manifold that the garrett will bolt straight to ?
Any help would be GREAT
Cheers :D

If you can find a readily available adapter, it will be your best option.

I'm not aware of any after market manifolds for these engines, so I would say you would be looking at a custom made manifold at lots of $$$ for not a lot of gain.

Also, I think there are better suited turbo's than the GT2860

Have a read through this thread

I will be seriously looking at getting one of these turbo's when I can stump up the spare cash

great part is, it is a bolt on upgrade, suited to the engine.

I wouldnt be ditching Toyota straight away. The turbo that was mentioned was installed last week on a 1HDT with initial comments as follows:

15psi @ 1500rpms now :D

"The biggest thing that keeps surprising me is how effortless it seems to be to build boost. Its as if I'm just flicking the boost gauge needle with my finger at will. 5psi? Let's make it 25...NOW :D ! honestly, I thought it moved quick before but there's no comparison. Just awesome."

A 1HD-FT is being dropped of at my place tonight that has had a GT2860RS installed and the owner wants it taken off for better low end and overall power. Over the next few days I will take off the adaptor plate and reinstall a modded CT26. Will let you knopw how it goes if interested - well I plan to post the results from dyno with boost and AFR on the sheet.

I am aiming for 200whp. It is running 35" tyres so that might make it difficult. Might have to be happy near 180.

Why could you not make one up from heavy steam pipe in the log style? My one is leaking at the 2 piece joint and would like a solid one piece manifold to put on.

Hi, well I can report that the 1HD-FT Auto that I installed one of my Performance CT26 on spun up just over 141 kw at the tyres - 35" tyres last night. No smoke.

Thats 189.2hp @ wheels on a Dyno Dynamics dyno on 35" tyres with a 070 ramp rate

A front mount eBay intercooler was fitted and works exceptionally well.

This particular version of the turbo does 21psi no problem at all at 60km/h at lockup in 4th which is about 1400rpm.

Peak torque is estimated to be a tad under 650nm at 1700rpm.

Bear in mind that this turbo is all about response. It is being removed in a week after arduous 1.7 Bar testing for over a month now. The next version is less about low end and more about midrange.

You can get a 28/60 bolt on turbo for any Toyota engine.

I have sold alot of them in the past with exceptional results.

Custom - Im not sure how you get those spool up results and top end power without either massive EMP or huge amounts of fuel and timing?
Its just that I have been doing toyota and niss upgrades for a very long time and have used every possible combination of wheels and housings from every manufacturer and have never come across a turbo that can do everything that you have achieved.

Come on Northside, you have plenty of experience, granted, and I technically agree with your approach to tuning, but the comment that you have tried every possible combination from every manufacturer is just too much. I could point right away to several turbos that are not Toyota based that are better on a diesel in the 3L-4.5L range than a GT2860R/RS. Thanks for the compliment that I have achieved better results than you ever have on these Toyotas :-)

No timing was changed, fuel is not on the stock pump limit - small smoke puff on startup similar to stock unlike a maxed out pump. Only things touched when the install happened were the aneroid and main fuel screw (half a turn from where it was). Running around 19:1 AFR at peak power.

At the end of the day, if I make bold claims that are not realised by the customer who purchases my product, I will not succeed. As it is, every customer has been ecstatic and I wouldnt have it any other way.

Importantly, my desktop simulations give me with a couple of kW of where it should be time and time again, whether Diesel DI, IDI, Rotary or Otto - this is how I get the results, I already know what they will be based on a DESIGN before I try it in reality.

So my approach is completely different - I dont try and mix and match until I hit the jackpot, I design it to work in the first place

Dont stress custom, he's probably got garret tattoed on the inside of his eyelids and that is all he is able to see and comment on.

WE both know what works and that is all that matters :finger:
