4.2 Conversion Tacho Issues

Post by Best1 »

A mate has just done a 4.2TD conversion into a 2.8 GU. He sourced the 4.2 motor from a GQ, and can't work out how to get the tacho working. Any tips on which wires in the 2.8 harness connect to where on the motor would be appreciated. Cheers.

If interested i can modify the 2.8 engine harness to suit the 4.2. The engine ECU stays in there to convert the tacho signal and operate the glow plugs.
I do these harnesses for $600.

Or fit an early GU ZD30 instrument cluster.
Or have the alternator fitted with a W terminal then get the tachometer modded to take the signal from that.
I have just gone through the same thing put a GQ TD into a RD28 GU body.
The ECU was missing from the body so I'm going with a ZD30 cluster to get it working.
