does any how to put freewheeling hubs on an 8o series

does any how to put freewheeling hubs on an 8o series gxl that is full time four wheel drive. I am after what options i have Manual locking hubs, electric locking etc and has anyone done this before

Best to get a part-time transfer as well.The freewheeling hubs off any cruiser/hilux will fit don't worry about the cut outs if you use a hub off a >90 model.Have had heaps of friends with v8's and worked sixes do this and will save you heaps on fuel.

Marks Adaptors has a part time kit for the 80 series, includes the hubs & the transfer case gear.

Call marks and grab the info off them, they have the whole kit so have all the info.

there was an issue of 4x4 monthly that had an 80's which changed to free hubs, it talks about it

part time 4wd = 2wd or locked centre diff.

so theres no need for that, as thats what its doing. locking the centre diff engages the front axle now. like all other 4wds (not all wheel drives)

Hi if you go a marks kit, the ctr diff switch becomes the 2wd/4wd switch, and unlocking the hubs stops the front diff turning.Wont work if you have ABS brakes. I bought a DX transfer/rear tailshaft and a pair of 60 front hubs and mine is now pull the lever back to make it 4wd. Good for PTO winches too.

and what kind of cost was involved with that and does it bolt straight up to the gearbox or is an adaptor needed.

The front hubs cost me $50, and the transfer cost me nothing once i sold my removed constant
The transfers bolt straight up, you need the rear tailshaft too as the transfer is 50mm shorter without that ctr diff in there.
Positives....no front shaft vibs at speed, better economy marginally, less wear on front diff.
Negitives...no more constant 4wd, manual hubs,
