Transfer case???
Moderator: -Scott-
Transfer case???
I'm pretty sure my transfer case is knackered. 94 nj 3.0lt manual. I have a loud clunking sound, similar to a loud cv knock, coming from my transfer. It only happens in 4wd and is worse with higher load and turning and i can re-create it in low range taking off in reverse quickly. It sound like the chain is jumping or a gear tooth is missing. It also jumps out of low range on hill descent. Has anyone had these symptoms and if so, was it the transfer case?
Re: Transfer case???
Transfer chain stretched 100%
Re: Transfer case???

Bloody oath..... that's what we built them for isn't it. It hasn't been happy since i drowned it about 18 months ago. Oil gets dirty very quickly, so i've been kind of expecting it. It's a bloody nasty noise though. Had the first trip out on the weekend with the new 33's and i don't think she liked it.NJV6 wrote:Rough bugger!

I think the drain on the transfer case is in a silly place, there is no way it can drain all the oil out..... the PTO piece hangs way lower than the bung.
