LS1 Headers (alternatives to marks4x4?)

Post by crankycruiser »

Hey fellas. Im after a new set of Block huggers for my 80 and am after some advice on where to get some DECENT ones.. I have been running in the marks 4x4 ones that are supplied with the kit and they are JUNK! they have fallen to bits and they arent even 2 years old :bad-words: Im sick of welding the fekers up!

Now problem is I need to get some that are very similar in shape as I cant just pop down the road to the local exhaust shop and get them to fit them, Im in Weipa... I need to get the exit from the headers in as close to the same position as possible as we dont have a exhaust bender up here...

So the marks ones appear to be rear dump. anyone know of anywhere in oz / US that i could order some from?

thanks guys

u can see them laying on the floor in this pic

Your only option is to get your hands on some marks block huggers. Take them to a custom shop and they will copy them in aluminiumised or stainless and ship them up to you. Bit of rooting around. But you will end up with what you want. Otherwise if they are slightly wrong, they will touch your leads and even with the shroud on they will melt them, and also your zort wont line up.

They look very simillar to LS3 headers as used by HSV.

You will find plenty for sale on eBay and the HSV Forum.

I purchsaed a set fro $200.00 complete with cats and system all the way to the rear bumper.
Cheers,

Maybe something like this http://www.speedwaymotors.com/LS1-Tight ... ,4614.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Wont be a straight fit up to your exhaust, but if you could get the flanges that bolt to the headers it may need minor work.

What is the fuel economy like with the LS1?

VE headers hug the block a lot more than the older VT-VZ stuff but the exhaust ports are the same so they will bolt up the same.

Thanks mate, but they need to be rear exit. if the go straight down like the ones in the pic they will hit the engine mount.

With the blower, on 37's, with 4.1 gears it does 20/100 on the highway, once i start flogging it round the tracks it goes up to around 24/100

Ur's are doing alright then! mine have been leaking since new.. (only a small tick) but got real bad once they were 1.5 years old :bad-words: ..... I've been searching my little heart out for an alternative, but just keep hitting the brick wall :agrue:

Talk to Mark At Powertorque Engines in Brisbane. He will have a pile of stock manifolds you can use for test fitting and clearance testing. There is also nothing he doesnt know about LS1's. He has done a number of conversions and is one of the best tuners in the country. Tell him VooDoo sent you. You can also talk to Jezza in Mackay (HDT) who will have some spares around too.

Have you tried the short headers from HM http://www.hmheaders.com.au/index.php?q=204.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
or even the primary pipes from the HM113SS. http://www.hmheaders.com.au/index.php?q=213.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
