LS1 - LS3

Post by crankycruiser »

Im trying to suss out what i need to swap out my LS1 to a LS3..

now i know it will bolt straight up, but will all my ancillaries bolt on (alt, ac, P/steer etc)? i know i need to change wiring loom, but i can still use my computer and get it re mapped?

will my blower bolt to the LS3? (im thinking it might be a tad undersized tho? its only a 112)

and lasst, who knows where to get a LS3? was thinking a crate motor maybe? on a crazy side note, an LS7 would be much the same issues? wiring loom the same as the ls3?

cheers

Hey,
You can use your ancillaries, But will need to change the water pump and balancer aswell.

To run your ECU you would need to change the reluctor wheel on the crankshaft, change to mechanical throttle body, change the injector plugs, and lengthen the cam sensor and map sensor wires.
Otherise need to go with late model drive by wire ECU. Same deal with LS7

Try salvage auto sales at nerang, he gets the LS3's second hand occasionally, But if you only need a motor, no bolt on or accesories, Than crate is prob cheaper

Thanks steve, so if i changed all that stuff, would that also mean i wouldnt have to change my wiring loom?? would i be better off running the fly by wire?

Whats crazy about a LS7? They are sub 12k new and make plenty of herbs standard - less complicated then a blown motor.

I picked up a written off HSV GTS earlier this year with an LS3 and 6 speed auto for $6,400.00 at Manhiems.

I sold off what I dind't need and ended up with the engine and trans plus all the wiring and computers for $3,500.00

I don't think you can buy 400FWHP for less than that.
Cheers,

I know where there is a 408 iron block stroker, forged internals, built for boost for 9k. Build by Powertorque Engines here in Brisbane but the engine is in Sydney. I think it made around 340rwkw (NA) in a commodore but id have to check.

How funny.

Here I am sitting here thinking "yes, I'm quite happy with the power output of my non-turbo 1HZ in my 80 series"...
