TURBO VS BLOWER
greg wrote:Just wondering - wouldn't a turbo / supercharger kit on a 1300 and 1600 be pretty similar?
I seem to recall that the air inlets are pretty much compatable, and a set of exhaust extractors will fit either engine so doesn't that make them pretty similar?
Similar ... I have a 1300 head on my 1600 block ...

Simple, Reliable, cheap, and HEAPS of power from down low
Supercharger: Toyota 4AGZE, a dime a dozen (cheap), overdriven to hell (1.5) (bigger cubic inches of the rover, 3.5L compared to 1.6L MR2)
Fuel: Dedicated LPG, second hand mixer equipment (cheap)
Throttle body: Japanese, Nissan, almost free from most wrekers (cheap)
Some bracketry required depending on mounting and pulleys
Some home made plumbing and your up and running.
The benefits of running LPG thru the blower (which gets hot from compressing the O2) is it cools the blower.
Note !! Pays to have a "blowoff"valve (homemade) inline to prevent "bad things" happening in the event of a backfire or overboosting.
Hope this helps...........
Id rather be blown than injected any day !!!

Isn't there major backdraft issues with LPG going through a turbo or supercharger? If stoichometric ratios are correct LPG can selfignite - not good.....

I was thinking the same thing... And i guess that the vitara swap is what this product would need to beat - either in power, or in price.

Sam,
whats wrong with 7psi at idle should be good for about 15psi when underway. if it detonates put it on gas. A mate of mine plays with old escorts and his latest creation is a 2L running an mr2 blower geared about 3:1. Its so much load it wont idle below 2000rpm. so he just turns it on when he's moving. scared the shit outa me the first time doin about 70kph in third at about 3000rpm he hit the "GO" button and we laid about $150 worth of rubber on the road and ended up going the other way.
The other option would be blown and turboed but i guess then something will go bang down the driveline????

Took it out for a run on Saturday Night with Dave, Tim, and Tom.
The blower was awsum gave me heaps more torque right of idle. could come up to obstacles at a slower speed and know that I could just stab the throttle and it would go. Even in the mud it was heaps better.

Using the EFI and turbo from a Mitsu cordia turbo ad adapt it to the zook 1.3 G13b.
Will let you know how it goes. Any info greatly wanted.

Havn't dynoed it yet.
Am looking at doing kits blowers and brakets are easy but the injection kit is the pain at the moment. Unless someone has a contact in japan that can get the TBI units off Vitara's.

Tried something really stupid last week and was suprised. Wanted to see how much torque it actually had. 1st gear high range rolling at idle started to brake and accelerate at the same time to see what would happen to my suprised the Zook stopped but the rear tyres keep spinning it sat there spinning th33 MTR one only will try again and hit the locker and see if it will do both if so I will make a VID and post it.

Hey Sam,
Are you using the standard TBI computer? Hows the computer handle the boost input. Any photos of the bracketry, or supercharger id.
Going to check hopefully soon if my orig dizzy will work with the cordia turbo cpu, Let everyone know how it goes, could be a alternative to vitara as they arn't the best to get hold of.
Mate has a supra supercharger running the mitsu efi system onto a toyo 1.6 2L in a diahatsu F20. Damn powerfull boost, not sure how long motor will last yet.
Thanks
Nic
