1fz-fe running rough

Post by howsie »

Recently my dual fuel 1fz-fe has started to run rough. Have noticed that there seems to be a ticking noise from exhaust. Can barely be heard when under the bonnet but is quite loud standing at the drivers door. Have also noticed what sounds like noisy lifters.any ideas.

Car is regularly run on petrol and up until now has run like a dream.

Does it have gas fitted, if so I'd be betting its burnt out a valve seat. Common problem.

As stated is dual fuel ie gas and petrol. Gas system was installed in 97 but has always run perfectly, has never idled rough always starts within a second.of turning the key.

Was thinking something to do with valves but the fact that there is a ticking as well has convinced me to look elsewhere.

As well as the fact that valves usually show signs of wear long before they burn out. Although I must admit I an no expert in this regard but this is.net understanding.

Lifter type noise gets faster but not louder the loud ticking disappears with revs as does the roughness. I will be checking exhaust manifold soon as my brothers car made a similar noise because of a loose manifold.

Plugs were thoroughly checked about a week ago as were the leads all were as close to perfect as you'll get.

Aren't these an over head cam? Check your valve clearances/adjust your valve clearances.

do a compression test more than likely it will be a valve burnt out .. or a colapsed valve seat.. very common problem with the 1fz motor . it is even more common when they are on gas .... gas is for BBQS not cars hahahaha
cheers

Double over head cam with shimmed buckets ;)
I fix Patrols all day. Then I get in my Cruiser and drive home.
