It's alright mate, i really don't have a problem with buying a suit. There's plenty of lead time and it's something i'll have afterwards for other comps at least.

I'm looking at a wired and blown helmet as well.

Fire suits are good, makes drivers look like drivers and they buy a bit of time to help you get out in case of fire. I know 3 close friends that have been in race car fires every one was happy to have on their SUPER SUIT.

For the winch challenge guys a fire suit may not be needed, maybe a fire life preserver or a fire Scuba.

If you have to bring oars to get thru its a boat race not a car race :finger:

Like a few people on here, i am surprised that no other 4x4 racing requires the use of Fire suits and other safety gear like HANS devices, I noticed Chriss wood had a neck brake on during last years KOTR. As with what a lot of people have said the saftey aspect on 4wding comps in general to me has alway revolved around roll over protection. While i think roll protection is something that need to be enforced there are a lot of other areas that are not even thought about. If this type of racing is to be sold as a legitimate sport i think the introduction of flame suits hans devices and such gives some legitimace to the sport and can only help with securing sponsorship of the event.

on a side note i cant wait till this years event.

I'll be surprised if that is allowed as dealling with the heat as a driver can be more challenging than the track

Well to me it would be a smarter move to allow it then... There is nothing thing in the rules stating it can't be done.. A driver and navi are a team in 1 car so it shouldn't matter who drives or navigates...... I wish tuff truck was like it too.. If you can't trust your navi to drive your car he shouldn't be your navi....

My navi that will be running it with me has built the car with me and put a lot of his own money into it anyway ... So I don't have a problem with him driving it, he drives it just as much as me now in the bush, he might be driving tuff trucks it yet too.... Depending on what I do with screwy...

navigator's do just that, co-drivers also drive. seeing that a team consists of a driver and a navigator i would hope there would be no swapping allowed.

So tell me what everybody's problem is with the navigator driving also.... I've been doing comps for yrs in nsw and It wouldn't worry me at all... I can't see what's everyone's problem is.. Not as if we are swapping cars we both drive the same car same tracks ... From what I've seen from the comps in the states it works well... Shares the overall responsibly a lot more than him just stilling in the passenger seat telling directions..
What is it everyone's just scared there navi will out drive them or something is it....

And it seems there is a number of teams doing the same thing...

I think it's a tough call, but only from individual team's perspectives. It shouldn't matter a damn to the event organisers or rules.

As an owner/driver, i'd say that it truly and totally comes down to the dynamic of each team. For me and Luke (BrokenBitsRacing co-dawg :D ), i trust him implicitly, and i know he's every bit as good a driver as i am if not better which is why i picked him as a navi. I'd let him share-wheel a long course event in my truck anytime, especially as it would help to mitigate fatigue.

However there's owners out there who don't have the luxury of a full time navi, so i can see how they might be uncomfortable with it.

Personally i'll drive the race no matter what the rule is on driver/navi swaps. It's their race to run and organise and this particular matter is kinda neither here nor there. Storm in a teacup really

yes you can swap if you wish to do so . we have left this option open this year as fatigue will most prob be a concern depending on the weather
and it adds a bit more excitment for the teams .
