This weekend:- Lowmead 3 Car Challenge: Photo's Up!!

Post by Mosko111 »

Here's a few questions to all of you out there!!

# Have you ever competed in a teams event?
# Do you think you would be cool, calm and collective enough to race and work as a team with some of your mates??
# Would there be possibilities your mates lack of ability and style could cause heckling from fellow team mates???
# With your powers combined, could your team take the top step on the podium in front of 14 other teams????
# could one of your navies have the speed and skill to claim this years CQ's Fastest Navi award?????

If you want answers to these questions and many more, you should seriously consider rounding up some mates, filling out the nomination forms (Available from Troy Tenheggler by emailing him at troyten@tpg.com.au ) and sending them in on the 21st of July!! (That's when nominations open!)

For those few who have not yet heard about The Lowmead 3 Car Challenge, which is organised and run by the Gladstone 4wd Club. It is a 3 car teams event that focuses on getting every car from the start line to the finish line in the quickest time possible while completing the scenarios set by the organisers.

The event is a really family friendly weekend with great facilities, flat camping areas beside the lagoon, easy access to courses, catering and a bar!

To give you a rough idea of what you are in for the weekends format is usually:

# Fri night meet and great BBQ & vehicle scrutineering

# Sat morning is either a speed run around the perimeter of the property to get competitors to the morning stages, or a casual trip over in convoy.

# Sat morning stages are then usually good warm up stages, with most of them driveable with a bit of right foot. Or there will be scenarios like one vehicle has to reverse through the course while the other two drive forwards, or dead car tow through course. (these stages really show who can think on their feet and work as a team!)

# Sat afternoon stages require a bit of winching, snatching, attempts to drive bigger winch walls, possibly a gps point run, and pretty much just a lot of dirt being thrown in every direction with the crowd being able to
See numerous hills from the one viewing point!

# Sat night is a gymkhana style relay course, where you go flat out, one car at a time and pass on the baton once each car has completed its lap.

# Sun morning will possibly consist of a 1 hour gps run with a In and out scenario where you go and find a point then come back to get a new lot of co-ordinates, around 6 or 7 teams do this stage at the same time.
Sunday also has teams battle it out on the All Terrain course that is really spectator friendly with all the action going on right in front of you!

There will be roughly 10 stages for the weekend.

These stages won't be the same as years gone by, but the format seems to work well and everyone who has raced in the past has had an absolute ball!!!

So guys and girls,if you have any questions please feel free to ask! We want anyone and eveyone to jump on the Lowmead band wagon!! So get keen, get your teams together and get nominated!!

Over this week i Have been in talks with past competitors of this event, and it sounds like there are many teams already organised and have their 3 cars for their team organised and are now just waiting for nominations to open up!

Last years winners from Mackay lead by Wild Racing will be nominating again and looking to take the #1 spot for two years in a row.
There's a team from the Logan 4wd club looking to enter and travel up and try beat the locals, the locals have 4 or 5 teams already organised with most being a little reshuffled from last years teams....
Rocky will have a large contingent travelling down aswell, with Brad Dukes, Rocky Arb, Russ Mason, The Stockers with Lockers rig and a heap of others all getting teams organised!! Which means there will most probably already be 15 teams out there ready to nom! Haha

Is there any others out there that are keen to race?? Would be great to hear from you on here! Or are you all a bit scared?? :D

Re: :CQ: Lowmead 3 Car Challenge: 18 Teams This Year!!

Post by Mosko111 »

Well nominations have opened and filled within TEN MINUTES!!

And they came in so thick and fast that because of an error in counting the teams, and a nomination form making it's way into the organisers junk mail inbox, it means that instead of having the comp capped at 15 teams, EIGHTEEN teams have now been accepted! That makes this years field of 54 cars the biggest ever! And what is even more amazing is that there is another 5 known teams that missed unfortunately missed out!. It just goes to show how popular this event has become during it's very short time running!

And so the competition committee has been in discussion with how to get everyone through as many stages as possible and an option that is likely to go ahead is that on the Fri night after vehicles arrive and are scrutineered they will be run on a short drive stage close to camp! This stage will have the three cars of the team do it individually, and then their three times added together to produce an overall score that will decide the placings for that stage. Also with the way this stage will be run, if a team member arrives a little to late on the Fri night, they will simply be able to run the course on the Sat night!!

As i'm able to gather more information on each team and the cars within that team i will post it up here! But for now i will just throw up the teams list and the cars that i know are in the teams! :)

Any vehicle with performance upgrades will require a roll cage. As long as you follow the rules I think you will be safe. :D. Since no glass Mabey a motorised keg completed with tap, bottle and plastic cups ? And a winch because kegs are heavy.

Ok I realise PPE is a must. But i think the only way to travel between stages is by esky.

In relation to the Motorised Esky, if you wear an Australian standards helmet, shatter proof safety eye wear, double pluggers and have a high visibillity safety flag attached to the contraption, then I can't see it being a problem. If you have signage on it please change the "show us ya tits" to "please show us ya breasts" as it is a family friendly event.

I have updated the Competitors list above ^^^ As a few teams have had vehicle changes and name changes, there's been no shortage of vehicles willing to fill the empty spots, so i can see the last couple Unknowns being filled very shortly

For a bit of an update on the event:
# Sponsors have been locked in and competiton shirts will be ordered this week or next by the sounds of it. (We get our shirts through Kombat Clothing. http://www.Kombat.com.au)
# A recon has been done down at the property and it looks like all of this years stages will be run in a completely new area!!
# We will be having a display day prior to the event at Gladstone Camping Centre and should have live radio on site throught the day (Buiseness is in a prime location!)
# This year there is going to be a Fri night stage, where competitors will run it one car at a time so that those who have further to travel can run it on the Sat night.
# Camping area is looking great!

Are you running toyota diffs in ur troll and break it?
Its a tough call which comp to go to being a spectator. One thing Lowmead has going for it is you can see nearly all of the stage track but different style of racing to KOR

Ive been watching the youtube videos of the event and my comment was about you breaking the swivel hub off your bus.

From all reports, the Lowmead looks great for spectating, and I havent been to winch style events for a long time. Even got a group together for road trip!

The one thing KOTR has going for it is new location and getting bigger each year. (yet to have been to one either)

It is a pity! Because we had the event planned for the weekend after KOTR! But the Gun club at Lowmead wants to use their range the weekend after so we had to push it back to the same weekend, which is a bummer because I wanted to go Chen out KOTR! :bad-words: but hey who's going to argue with a bunch of people with guns!
