Think you might find it can't be done legally, I would talk to an engineer first.

While the original poster sounds like he hasn't put much thought into it and might own a flat brimmed cap, i don't necessarily think it's out of the question for a SAS on a 200. People said the same thing about the new hilux's when they came out and said that EFI would be the end of people working on cars and engines at home alla way back in 1990.

Certainly a lot of work and the "37's and big lift" thing is possibly a bit of a Gomer Pyle question.

you may get a diff swap but 37s i wouldnt think so anymore.

talk to an engineer first. because a good 4wd shop would just get the shits with a tyre kicker.
and a ripoff one will just take your cash and not deliver on this request.

He will say no. There is another guy in Sydney, will see if I can find his card. In mean time try rta website for list of engineer's.

It will cost a bit of money. Mods are like that. haha. But like said. There is a list on the RTA website that you check for engineers. Give them a call and have a chat with them to find out just what is involved so you can figure out just what the cost will be. Then you can call around a few shops to let them know what you want and they can talk you through the process from there.

And the other question is: Why? Is it just to have something different, or do you have a specific task in mind, that a std vehicle won't do. It sounds like you are intending to buy a new vehicle, then heavily modify it, and i'm sort of getting the feeling that the answer to "Why?" is "just 'cos".

X2 dealt with Athol recently on a simple engineering mod and he was so shit scared of mooted changes to rules, he was incapable of providing clarity on a simple seat belt install

Can't see him even considering what the OP is suggesting.

I would also ask 'why'?

Where are you intending to take it? Standard 200series would take you through almost any of the well known 4wd tourist routes,ie Cape York, Simpson Desert, Tanami, Gibb River etc

If you are going places that 'need' big lift and 37s be prepared for panel damage etc

A lot of car builders are also having problems with him. Seems like he has jumped the fence on vehicle mods and would rather not be in the game.

Yep :-( learnt that by going places that 'need' 37s and big lift with only 35s and 2" lift and not enough brains to know the difference

Don't stress it Cam. You'll get used to it and eventually you'll be wearing teal slacks and talking about blue shackles and how they help you push through the first layer of gravity. haha. OH. just don't mention the 'G' word unless you've been around for a long time. For the newbies. The 'G' word refers to Goats. Midgets are PC enough for here but don't talk about Goats and if you want a bit of fun rattle Milo's (rockcrawler31) cage a little. Good sport for everyone. :D

When thread is in chitchat, more off-topic stuff is tolerated. Seems there was enough tech to warrant a move, but that made the chat out of place?

For starters i would be working out exactly what you want before even thinking about calling engineers, they would ge tthe shites with radoms ringing up but not having worked out what they want - I know I would anyway.

If you are in sydney there are a few engineers - I think I spoke to consumotive or something like that - htere is a list of signatories on the rta website with contact details etc.

SAS I can't imagine would be much of a problem but I am building a car through Athol as he is local etc and He is only willing to certify tyres up to 50mm over max standard and up to 4inch total lift without having to higher racetracks and do brake tests. However I am also doing a body swap and engine swap all of which is fine. You just have to do some research and work out the best way to get what you want to acheieve.

For 4x4 fabrication/modification stuff I have heard great things about lukeys 4x4 in syd

Cheers

Yeah. Athol was pretty degected by the whole engineering process between the RTA and State Government. He got his nose out of joint when he wasn't involved with the whole process so he only does a few small things for people that are genuine.
