Hi all.
Just after some info regarding the rear diff of the 80 series.
I need to know the required backlash, pinion bearing preload and carrier bearing preloads.
Thanks.

Look at link I posted in bible. Lots of info so you may find it there, alternatively paging The Big Boy. Very interested to see how you go with this as was told its too hard without a workshop full of tools.

I'll have a workshop full of tools Just need the specs.
Were you refering to:
Toyota gear installs
http://gearinstalls.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I've already had a look through there, lots of good info but I dont think the full range of specs were listed, just what he was 'happy with'. I guess I could just use that as a guide. Would be good enough I reckon.
Thanks.

Yep that's the one. Pm TheBigBoy as he has recently rebuilt his 80 series rear diff and would most likely have the specs.

Re: Rebuilding 80 series rear diff.
They really arent that hard to find, from memory.
Run out 0.1 (max)
Pinion preload 1.3 to 2 nm (new bearings)
Backlash .15 to .2 (Being a rear 4x4 diff, go the greater .2)
Carrier bearing depends if a air locker is being used or not. +3 notches.
Torque specs 110nm carrier bearing cap bolts
Easy

Re: Rebuilding 80 series rear diff.
Well I found some factory service manuals online to get me sorted.
Now since I am changing out the crush collar for a solid one, can anyone recommend a starting shim thickness? (may just save me a little time).
Cheers
But none the less, thanks for the replies
