Dana 60 carrier removal/install
I've got a ford dana 60 unit bearing front diff and a rear sterling 10.5" diff. Stripping them down to build up. New centres, lockers and master install kit...
Need to remove the centre out of them both and looking for tips from people who have done it all before?
The ways it has been done, special tools needed or made it easier. Pretty much looking at how the hell do I get them out or am I better getting a professional to do it all...
Technically the housing needs to be flexed to remove and install.
I've watched some you tube videos and done research already, there in their farking tight and seems like they tight a lot of force.

Re: Dana 60 carrier removal/install
If tight, you may need a diff spreader to crank it apart a touch to make fitting and removing easier.
Ive used a bent prybar to get a busted D44 centre out, ,wasnt too worried about buggering the centre as it was being replaced with a detriot.

My friends aren't holding me back..... I'm pulling 'em forward.
Re: Dana 60 carrier removal/install
Pry bar. You can also throw a chain around the center and use a pry bar or two. Could winch it out

Re: Dana 60 carrier removal/install
Don't need a spreader. Just get two come a longs or chain blocks from front to rear diffs at the wheel ends to tweak them slightly. Out they pop by hand.
Yes, I've done this.

And you will need to get it in again with correct preload. Investing in or renting a spreader is good.

It's a diff, not a f1.

Re: Dana 60 carrier removal/install
Thanks for all the replies guys, much appreciated. I've sourced a diff spreader I can use at my disposal now so I will go that way purely due to the ease of it all, removal and install!
