My name is Andrew...obviously. I recently purchased my first 4wd, which is a 92 GQ SWB Diesel. I am happy with the car, and to say that I am new to 4wding, the car seems to be keeping me out of too much trouble.

I was wondering if anyone can comment on any of the questions I have below.
I have a couple of questions about the Transfer Case on my GQ, it is a Series 2, so has the Chain Driven Transfer.
Problem 1 - The Transfer Case is leaking, and seems to come between the main seal of the case, where the 2 largest parts seal together. It only drips out, but seems to come out more when the car is under stress, like driving through soft sand. There is not much leaking, I checked it after refilling it after one month, and was still up to the correct level, but the main problem seems to be that when driving it is spitting the oil onto the muffler, and starts burning off, creating a terrible smell...
Has anyone had a similar leak on a GQ, and knows how much approx it would cost and how much work is involved?
Problem 2 - I have a problem sometimes not being able to shift the transfer into 4L, this can happen when I stop on a hill, go to select it and sometimes cant get it in. Then I can spin the wheels and then shift it in easily, this is not a huge problem, and happens only rarely, but im worried that it could eventually stop, and I would be stuck in a certain mode. Anyone know if this is more likely to be the case itself, or the lever mechanism
Any comments on either of the problems would be greatly appreciated....
Cheers
Andrew
